Once again, Doctor Kim Dan is in peril due to the circumstances related to Jaekyung, and this time it was an indirect incident. It has become something of a norm for Kim Dan to suffer after every few chapters in this series. And from what we saw in the last chapter, Jinx Chapter 38 will have something similar to that.
This series started with a car crash where Kim Dan ended with one of the worst people he could imagine. A kind of man who only wants him for his body but doesn’t see much value otherwise besides it. There was no promise of romance in the series from the get-go, just an obsessed man taking advantage of the weak.
Though, the story is in the Yaoi genre, which gave people hope about what the future of the series could be like. And the key word here is hope, as this roller coaster is on a one-way destination to destruction. Or, the destruction of a weak man with light features that make people with Jinx attracted towards him, and loan sharks.
Kim Dan has gotten over many of his financial problems in life thanks to Jaekyung, but the athlete is not an altruist. He expects Kim to repay what money the doctor owes him and use him for the time being. The story does try to portray that Jaekyung is developing feelings for Kim Dan but then throws it out for the sake of drama.
Jinx Chapter 38: Story so far
The events before Jinx Chapter 38, even the chapter prior, are something that many readers don’t look at fondly. The Yaoi manhwa had promised, a lot, in its run and then subverted those expectations each time. The relationship between Kim and Jaekyung is anything but healthy. However, it keeps the readers interested.
A good series, one that keeps the readers interested till the very end, but the manhwa is all about keeping readers interested with whatever means possible. In the case of Jinx, we see that take place with the endless suffering of Kim Dan and his patience to take it all. If not for his patience, the series would have ended a long time ago.
Moreover, Kim Dan is completely Stockholm Syndromed a this point in the manhwa and wants to do things to make Jaekyung feel better. The doctor has lost all sense of reason, doesn’t even think about his grandmother, and is focused on his abuser instead. But, that kind of messed up response from Kim Dan is what makes the reader come back to the series.
In a traditional story, if Kim Dan were a girl, he would be an outdated female lead with no other traits. But since this is in the confines of the Yaoi genre, that’s a fair game. And thanks to Kim Dan’s action (or inaction) Jaekyung thinks that he can do whatever he wants with him. The two are made for each other in a perverted sense.
Jinx Chapter 38: What to Expect?
Jinx Chapter 38 will continue with Kim Dan being sick after drinking the protein shake. The shake was meant to be taken by Jaekyung as per the gift from the place they were staying. To cheer the celebrity that had decided to be in their place, or maybe not.
The way that scene was conveyed showed foul play, as in someone wanting to drug the Korean MMA fighter before the match and have him quit the fight. Thought, a little miscalculation led to Doc being the one to drink it and get poisoned instead, making things complicated. Now Jaekyung can’t just exercise his Jinx on Kim and let out the frustration before the main event.
However, this is also an opportunity for the two main leads to come together, again. The two have now been stuck in a cycle of separating (emotionally) and then being closer ever than before (emotionally).
But both of them are dense how they feel for each other, and are sitting ducks when it comes to their romance. The next chapter should at least incite an event where Jaekyung makes up for how horrible he has been to Kim.
