During the previous interview on SiriusXM’s Sway in the Morning, Pinkett Smith disclosed that when she initially encountered Tupac, he was involved in drug dealing. However, while she was distancing herself from that perilous lifestyle, Shakur regrettably became more entangled in it. Their relationship was not founded on romance, as is commonly interpreted, but rather on reciprocal assistance and resilience. Pinkett Smith clarified, ‘It was a matter of survival, and it has always been about survival between us, supporting each other in ways that he and I could support one another.’

In his 2021 memoir, Will Smith unveiled that he experienced feelings of jealousy regarding the friendship between Jada Pinkett and the late rapper Tupac Shakur. Smith expressed, At the start of our relationship, I was tormented by their bond. He was ‘PAC, and I was just myself..while their relations are never romantic, their love for each other is renowned.’
During a 2020 interview with The Breakfast Club, Will Smith confessed to experiencing insecurity in the presence of Tupac. Smith shared, ‘I could never bring myself to fully engage with PAC. You know, there was a bit of a thing between them. They grew together and had a love for each other, but there was never.. a sexual relationship’.
