Who Was Queen Elizabeth?
Elizabeth I was born in 1533 to Queen Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII. Anne was Henry’s second wife and the Queen of England from 1533 to 1536 until she was executed and her marriage was annulled too. This wasn’t enough until they declared Elizabeth I as illegitimate. Beheading Anne for treason and other charges against her led to the beginning of the English Reformation. After Henry’s death, his son, Edward VI, succeeded the throne and ruled till he died in 1553. When he realized that he wouldn’t make it, he passed his throne to his cousin, Lady Jane Grey, and not any of his step-sisters (Elizabeth and Catholic Mary).
Soon, Mary took over control of the throne by ignoring Edward’s will after the execution of Lady Jane and imprisoning Elizabeth. But she died in 1558, and Elizabeth I was crowned as the Queen in 1559 and decided not to rule alone, but she used to take good counsel. Well, the Queen is also referred to as the ‘Virgin Queen’, and it has a story too. Elizabeth was the Queen who had a personality that was more tolerant and moderate, and she used to analyze things much better; after all, she suffered a lot after getting declared illegitimate. She also knew the importance of foreign affairs.
