Just like we cannot have enough of dating reality shows, there’s one more thing that producers around the world will never get tired of. We’re talking about the Bigg Boss franchise, which started as this unique albeit slightly creepy concept of putting a bunch of people in a house with no way out.
The show eventually branched off into spin-offs and different versions, and now it has gotten to the point that many avid fans have just lost their excitement. The original Dutch series now has a remake for every language, including some Indian versions as well.
When the show first came to India, it was a phenomenon never seen before. The drama was top-notch, and the fights between the housemates gave us life. That was that, and now the show is a chaotic mess that many do not even bother with.
Sometime in 2013, the show got a Kannada remake as well called Bigg Boss Kannada, produced by Endemol Shine, owners of the Bigg Boss format. Host Sudeep Sanjeev has been with the show since its conception, providing fans of the show with great entertainment and leading the show well.
Even if you haven’t seen the show in its full length, you must know the iconic Bigg Boss house, the spacious place where all of the contestants are put together to live and perform tasks till they either get eliminated or win.
Bigg Boss Kannada used to be shot at the same house where the Hindi version of the show was shot, but with season three, a new housing space was built for the Kannada version as well. The show has aired for long enough for even non-viewers to be aware of what the show is about and how it functions.
This Kannada version has been putting out season after season every year since 2013, and it is ready with a tenth season for this year as well. Fans of the show must be aware of the degraded quality of the Hindi version of the show. With its vile language and aggressive fights, the show is clearly past creating “drama” and seems to be aiming directly for physical assault.
Bigg Boss Kannada has, over the seasons, set itself apart in this aspect, primarily because the host, Sudeep, seems more patient and mature than the host from the Hindi version.
Is Bigg Boss Kannada Scripted?
The rumors that the show is entirely thought out and planned are not completely true. Yes, the rules that the members of the house have to follow, along with the directions of the tasks that they have to perform, are all previously planned, but that in no way means that the actions of the participants are scripted as well.
With so many cameras overlooking and capturing every movement of the contestants, they can’t act and pretend like they are following a script. The former contestants of the show, even the Hindi version, have revealed inside secrets about the house and how they used to live, considering there were cameras even in the washrooms.
Former House member Kirrik Keerthi revealed through his social media that while there are parts of the show that are scripted, in most parts of the show, the participants act and move around on their own accord.
He revealed that with so many cameras around, it is easy to get used to them following you and eventually forget that you’re getting spied on. He told fans that the core of the show revolves around bringing a bunch of strangers and forcing them to live together for a few weeks.
How this “living together” unfolds and what events take place depends solely on the participants, and for things to take place naturally, of course, there can’t be any script. The participants have to be allowed to have unique perspectives on the show for it to look natural and realistic.
The fact that participants forget the existence of the camera brings out their true emotions and genuine reactions throughout the time they are on the show.
Editing people’s reactions to situations in a way that looks exaggerated and dramatic can be done later, but that does not change the fact that the people trapped within the boundaries of the house are not pretending.
