What the New Iron Wok Jan! Key Visual Reveals

The official website of Iron Wok Jan! released a new key visual that perfectly captures the anime’s fiery and competitive spirit. It puts protagonist Jan Akiyama front and center, highlighting both his exceptional cooking skills and his fearless personality. Alongside the visual, the production team also released an updated promotional video that offers a closer look at the anime’s atmosphere, story, and several newly introduced characters. The new preview gives fans a better idea of what to expect when the series premieres.

The new promotional video takes a unique approach by featuring Nichido Otani, the story’s famous food critic, as he comments on Jan’s cooking. Known for his refined palate and difficult personality, Otani brings both humor and tension to the preview. Introducing Otani this early is a smart move, as it gives fans a glimpse of the series’ dark humor and intense competitive spirit. These are qualities that made the original manga so popular.

New Cast Members Join the Iron Wok Jan! Anime

The anime’s cast, which already includes Kikunosuke Toya as Jan Akiyama, Ikumi Hasegawa as Kiriko Gobancho, Kohei Amasaki as Takao Okonogi, and Kenjiro Tsuda as the narrator, has now expanded with several new rival characters.

Tomokazu Sugita joins the cast as Ryūji Bitō, a traveling Chinese chef known as “XO Sauce Ryū.” Famous for challenging chefs to cooking battles wherever he goes, the character is a great match for Sugita’s powerful and distinctive voice.

The newly announced cast also includes M·A·O as Celene Yang and Takahiro Sakurai as Kei Sawada. With more rival chefs and key characters joining the story, the anime appears set to expand its competitive world beyond the central rivalry between Jan and Kiriko.

The Production Team Behind Iron Wok Jan!

Ei Aoki is directing the Iron Wok Jan! anime at Studio TROYCA. Makoto Uezu, who wrote scripts for KonoSuba and Assassination Classroom, is handling series composition. Masako Matsumoto, character designer on Aldnoah.Zero and Overtake! is designing the characters and serving as the chief animation director. Tomoki Kikuya, composer behind Bocchi the Rock!, is scoring the music.

The decision to appoint Atsushi Okuda and Chihiro Hanamura as food animation directors shows the production team’s commitment to making the cooking scenes stand out

Opening and Ending Theme Songs

Where and How to Watch

In Japan, Iron Wok Jan! will stream on Anime Times, ABEMA, U-NEXT, and Anime Hōdai starting July 5 at 6:00 p.m. JST. While international streaming details have yet to be revealed, the growing global demand for cooking-themed anime suggests that a wider release is likely. The success of popular titles such as Food Wars! shows that there is a strong audience for intense culinary competition series.

Why the Iron Wok Jan! Anime Adaptation Matters

The Iron Wok Jan! manga series has sold more than 10 million copies, making it one of the most influential titles in the cooking battle genre. Long before popular series like Food Wars! and Iron Wok Jan! gained attention for their intense cooking competitions and more serious approach to culinary storytelling. Over the years, the franchise continued to grow with several follow-up series, including Iron Wok Jan! R: The Summit Operations, which ran from 2006 to 2010, as well as additional spin-offs and Iron Wok Jan 2nd, which concluded in 2019.

The Iron Wok Jan! anime adaptation combines an experienced creative team with a star-studded cast, showing that the series’ themes of cooking, competition, and personal ambition still have the power to attract modern anime fans.
