After a six-month break due to health concerns, Bocchi the Rock! has officially resumed serialization, marking a highly anticipated return for one of the most popular modern slice-of-life music manga. The series, created by Aki Hamaji, published its latest chapter in the August issue of Manga Time Kirara MAX, released on June 18.
The comeback was confirmed through an official announcement on X by Manga Time Kirara, immediately sparking excitement among fans who had been waiting months for updates.
Creator Returns After Health-Related Break
The manga had been on hiatus since January, when Hamaji revealed that ongoing physical health issues made it difficult to continue regular serialization. At the time, the creator clarified that the condition was not related to mental health and emphasized the importance of taking time to fully recover before returning to work.
With the new chapter’s release, Hamaji shared a reassuring update, confirming that their condition has improved significantly. In a message to readers, the creator expressed gratitude for the patience shown during the break and apologized for the long wait.
“I’m sorry to have kept everyone waiting, but I’ve recovered and can finally resume serialization,”
Hamaji shared. The creator also hinted that several projects had been progressing quietly during the hiatus, encouraging fans to look forward to future announcements.
The newly released chapter continues the story of Kessoku Band as they arrive in Osaka as part of their Tokyo–Nagoya–Osaka tour. This arc has been teased for some time and represents a key step forward in the characters’ musical journey.

The focus remains on Hitori Goto, also known as “Bocchi,” whose struggles with social anxiety have been central to the series’ appeal. Alongside bandmates Nijika Ijichi, Ryo Yamada, and Ikuyo Kita, Bocchi continues to grow both as a performer and as an individual.
This progression has been one of the defining strengths of the series, blending humor with emotional storytelling in a way that resonates with readers. The return chapter is expected to build momentum as the band faces new challenges on a larger stage.
A Franchise That Continues to Grow
Since its debut in Manga Time Kirara MAX, Bocchi the Rock! has evolved from a niche four-panel manga into a major multimedia success. The 2022 anime adaptation played a significant role in expanding its popularity, introducing the story to a global audience.
The anime’s success was reflected in both critical acclaim and commercial performance. Kessoku Band’s music, featured prominently in the series, became a breakout hit, with their full album topping Oricon’s Digital Album Ranking in 2023.
The franchise has continued to grow with additional projects, including a two-part compilation film released in 2024 and a confirmed second season currently in production. These developments highlight the series’ lasting impact and its ability to connect with audiences beyond manga readers.
