Invincible Season 5 to Shift Focus to Dinosaurus as Main Villain While Thragg Remains a Looming Threat

Invincible Season 5 is expected to shift the superhero series’ central conflict after the events of Season 4, with Dinosaurus positioned to become one of the most important threats facing Mark Grayson. Although Thragg remains a major figure in the story, his role is expected to develop differently as the series moves into its next chapter.

Prime Video has confirmed that Invincible will return for Season 5 in 2027, while production has already progressed significantly. The streamer has also announced a sixth season, giving Robert Kirkman’s animated adaptation a confirmed future beyond its upcoming fifth installment.

Dinosaurus Could Become Mark’s Next Major Enemy

Dinosaurus was introduced during Season 4 alongside several major new threats, including Thragg and Universa. The character is the alter ego of scientist David Anders and follows an extreme utilitarian philosophy, believing that sacrificing a smaller number of people can ultimately save a much larger population.

That ideology makes Dinosaurus particularly dangerous for Mark. Unlike an enemy who simply wants to conquer or destroy Earth, Dinosaurus believes that his actions are justified if they produce what he considers a better outcome.

The character’s complicated relationship with Mark also gives Season 5 an opportunity to explore a different type of conflict. Both characters claim to want to protect humanity, but Mark’s unwillingness to sacrifice innocent lives puts him directly at odds with Dinosaurus’ methods.

Matthew Rhys voices both Dinosaurus and his human alter ego, David. Robert Kirkman previously confirmed the casting and explained that Rhys’ ability to distinguish the two sides of the character was particularly important to the role.

Prime Video has now confirmed that Dinosaurus will return for Season 5, making his continued involvement one of the most significant pieces of information about the upcoming season.

Thragg Is Not Going Anywhere

Dinosaurus’ return does not mean Thragg’s storyline has ended. The Viltrumite leader remains one of the most powerful characters in Invincible, and Prime Video has also confirmed his return for Season 5.

Season 4 introduced Thragg as a massive threat to Mark, Nolan and the Coalition of Planets. While the immediate conflict changed by the end of the season, Thragg’s larger ambitions remain closely connected to the future of the Viltrumite Empire.

The comic material also provides plenty of reasons for Thragg to remain important as the animated series continues. His conflict with Mark and Nolan is ultimately tied to the future of the Viltrumites, meaning his presence can continue even when another antagonist receives greater attention.

Season 5 is therefore unlikely to simply replace Thragg with Dinosaurus. Instead, the series can use the two characters for different kinds of conflict, with Dinosaurus creating a more personal and ideological challenge for Mark while Thragg remains a long-term threat.

Allen’s Scourge Virus Decision Could Change Everything

Another major storyline heading into Season 5 involves Allen the Alien. Following the events of Season 4, Allen becomes the new leader of the Coalition of Planets and gains access to the Scourge Virus, a weapon capable of devastating the Viltrumite population.

This creates a serious dilemma because Mark and his family are connected to the Viltrumites. Allen has spent much of the series as one of Mark’s closest allies, but his new position requires him to consider the safety of billions of people rather than only the interests of his friends.

Whether Allen chooses to use the virus could create one of the most important conflicts of the upcoming season. The decision would not necessarily make him a villain, but it could put him directly against Mark if he concludes that eliminating the Viltrumite threat is worth the consequences.

With Season 5 confirmed for 2027 and Season 6 already renewed, Invincible is entering a new phase of its larger story. Dinosaurus may become the most immediate antagonist, but Thragg and the Viltrumite conflict remain central to Mark’s future, ensuring that the series’ biggest threat is far from over.
