Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro is a manga series that originated as a five-chapter webcomic on Pixiv from August 15, 2011, to December 25, 2015. It follows the story of high school student Hayase Nagatoro, who enjoys bullying her senior, Naoto Hachiouji, known as “Senpai,” an aspiring artist. She and her friends discover Senpai’s drawings and begin to torment him, but as they spend more time together, Nagatoro realizes she has feelings for him.
Despite Nagatoro’s cruel behavior, she is confused about her desire to bully Senpai and her daily growing feelings for him. Senpai is afraid of Nagatoro and also is attracted to her as they continue to interact, the two grow into a complicated friendship. The manga plays with the highs and lows of their situations as they go through the barriers of high school and the feelings they carry for each other.
The manga was later serialized by Kodansha’s online magazine Magazine Pocket on November 1, 2017. By May 2021, ten physical volumes of the series had been published in Japan, while seven English language volumes had been published by Vertical.
Their relationship has become popular enough to warrant a second season of the anime, which may set a new standard for the medium. However, the relationship between Nagatoro and Senpai can lead to toxic routes, making it a bit of a dangerous territory. Overall, Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-San is not a typical shoujo manga and is a heartwarming manga.
