It’s a great day to be a Hunter x Hunter fan. As the manga makes its long-awaited return, Yoshihiro Togashi’s iconic series has also reached a major milestone. In the 31st issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, Shueisha confirmed that Hunter x Hunter has surpassed 100 million copies in worldwide circulation, including digital editions.

The announcement comes as the manga resumes serialization after an 18-month hiatus, making its comeback even more memorable.
Hunter x Hunter Reaches 100 Million Copies With Long-Awaited Chapter and New Volume
The milestone comes alongside the release of Hunter x Hunter Chapter 411, the first new chapter since Chapter 410 was published in December 2024. The 18-month gap marks one of Yoshihiro Togashi’s longest breaks from the series. Adding to the celebration, Shueisha will release Volume 39 on July 3, the first new collected volume in nearly two years. The new volume also officially pushes the manga past the 100 million copies in circulation milestone.
With more than 100 million copies in circulation, Hunter x Hunter has joined an exclusive group of Shueisha’s best-selling manga. The series now stands alongside iconic titles such as One Piece, Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Slam Dunk, and KochiKame. Hunter x Hunter is the 24th manga series to surpass the 100 million mark.
How Hunter x Hunter Stayed Popular Despite Long Hiatuses
Long breaks have become part of Hunter x Hunter’s publication history, largely due to Yoshihiro Togashi’s ongoing health issues. In January 2023, Shueisha announced that the manga would no longer follow a regular weekly schedule after discussions with the author. Togashi later underwent surgery and continued working on the series, confirming the completion of Chapter 401 before sharing updates on future chapters. Chapters 401 through 410 were eventually released between late 2024 and early 2025.
Despite these extended hiatuses, Hunter x Hunter has maintained a loyal global fanbase. Its deep world-building, unique power system, complex characters, and unpredictable storytelling continue to make it one of the most beloved and influential shonen manga, with readers eagerly returning whenever a new chapter is released.
To celebrate the milestone, Shueisha launched the “Shibuya Hunter Street” campaign, turning Tokyo’s Shibuya district into a real-life Hunter x Hunter scavenger hunt. More than 100 characters from the series appear on street advertisements across the area, and fans can scan QR codes to collect them digitally. The campaign also allows fans outside Japan to join the event online.
The event runs through July 5. As part of the celebration, Shueisha will also publish a special Hunter x Hunter advertisement in The Asahi Shimbun on July 3 and make the manga’s first 340 chapters available to read for free for a limited time on Shonen Jump+ and Zebrack.
The Franchise Beyond the Manga
Since its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998, Hunter x Hunter has grown into one of the biggest manga franchises in the world. The series has inspired two TV anime adaptations, two anime films, several OVAs, and multiple stage plays. Most recently, Hunter X Hunter The Stage 3 was performed in Tokyo and Osaka in 2025, adapting the popular Greed Island arc.
Beyond anime and theater, the franchise has also expanded into gaming. The mobile roguelike Nen x Survivor launched worldwide in February, while the 3v3 fighting game Nen x Impact was released in 2025, giving fans new ways to experience Yoshihiro Togashi’s world.
With Hunter x Hunter back in serialization, fans are now looking ahead to what comes next. Yoshihiro Togashi has shared updates suggesting that work on future chapters is ongoing, although Shueisha has not confirmed how many chapters will be released before the series takes another break.
For now, one thing is clear: Hunter x Hunter continues to enjoy a passionate global fanbase. Surpassing 100 million copies in worldwide circulation shows that the series has remained as popular as ever, despite its irregular release schedule.
