Shueisha has issued a public apology after Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #33 sold out across Japan following overwhelming demand for its bundled One Piece Card Game promotional card.
The shortage left many manga readers unable to purchase the issue, which also featured the final chapter of Kouji Miura’s Blue Box, as copies quickly appeared on resale marketplaces at inflated prices.
Publisher announces multiple measures after Issue #33 shortage
In a statement posted through the official Weekly Shonen Jump X account on July 17, Shueisha apologized to readers for the inconvenience and confirmed several changes aimed at preventing similar situations in the future. Before the magazine’s release, the publisher had already increased its print run by 500,000 additional copies in anticipation of strong demand, but the issue still sold out rapidly due to the popularity of the exclusive Monkey D. Luffy promotional card.
To help readers who missed out, Shueisha announced a made-to-order special edition of Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #33 through the Jump Characters Store. The reprinted version will not include the promotional One Piece Card, and ordering details will be shared through the magazine’s official social media channels.

Shueisha also confirmed that the planned Charlotte Pudding One Piece Card Game bonus for V Jump’s October 2026 issue has been canceled. However, the publisher clarified that the previously announced Everyone Wins mail-in campaign for the Straw Hat Crew’s Three Strongest Set Cards will continue as scheduled. It added that advertisements for the canceled card will still appear in V Jump’s September issue because production deadlines prevented last-minute revisions.
The publisher further announced that One Piece Card Game promotional cards will be suspended across Weekly Shonen Jump, V Jump, and Saikyo Jump for the foreseeable future while it reviews future bonus item plans and sales methods.
Readers who were unable to purchase Issue #33 will also receive compensation, with Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #35 including two campaign tickets so they can continue participating in the ongoing Jump Ticket Rally Challenge before the July 31 deadline.
