Netflix’s Unseen is a crime thriller that is set for release on March 29th, 2023. The show is produced by Benjamin Overmeyer, the guy behind another hit series, Blood and Water. The six-part crime drama is set in Cape Town, South Africa following a very normal cleaning lady trying to find her lost husband and how she ends up getting caught up with the African mafia.
Written by Travis Taute and Daryne Joshua, the show is about a domestic help named, Zenzi, who is waiting for her husband to be released from jail but finds that he was actually released and is now lost. She takes it upon herself to find her husband and through some events finds gets involved with the African underworld leaders.
The premise of the show feels a bit similar to another show called The Cleaning Lady, so fans of that show will definitely find themselves enjoying Unseen. The series shows how Zenzi’s life is turned upside down and how she is forced to pick up arms and get violent to protect herself while on her quest to find her husband.
Unseen: Plotline
Netflix released the show’s trailer on March 15th, 2023. What we know about the series is that it revolves around a very simple and innocent-looking house help, Zenzi Mwale getting involved with Africa’s dangerous mafia gang leader. While trying to get a hold of her husband’s whereabouts, Zenzi ends up killing a member of the mafia gang and this trigger the entire gang to go after her.
Not so innocent Zenzi realizes she will have to continue to kill people in order to stay safe and alive. Her second life as a mafia killing machine is protected well by her innocent cover of being a menial house helper. Desperate to save herself and find her husband, unknowingly, Zenzi finds herself getting sucked into this double life, with the second one taking a toll on her.
She gets caught up in the mafia business so deeply that she finds herself fighting against government higher-ups and bank officials working with the organized crime ring leader. Zenzi uses her ‘domestic worker’ cover as a way to look more into the corrupt ways of the government officials, to try and reveal all their wrongdoings and let justice prevail.
Only time will tell if she will successfully maintain her cover and bring down the underworld gang or if she will succumb to that world and fail in her mission.

Rapulana Seiphemo is in the show as the crime lord, Blessing. He is the bad guy with zero redeeming qualities with no eye for judging people. Mothusi Magano plays a journalist who takes an interest in Mwale’s story and her character which to him feels like it is hiding something deep underneath.
