If you could, would you go back in time and change your life? That’s the question Phillip Grimmer faced one fine day after hitting rock bottom in every aspect of his life. When a poster offers to help him go back and adjust the past according to his liking, Phillip skeptically accepts it without realizing that there’s a price to pay for playing with time.
The show has been airing on CBC since February 27th, 2023. Its plot is inspired by a French series that goes by the same name. Taking place in Montreal, the 2017 French Plan B had a good response from its target audience, which led to it being produced at a larger level by CBC along with KOTV Productions. The show became one of the best psychological dramas that were intricate and gripping at the same time.
Plan B’s directed by Jean-Francois Asselin and the screenwriter was chosen to be Lynne Kamm. Along with Aisling Chin-Yee and Maxime Giroux, all of these people are the workforce behind the original Plan B. The cast of the series was announced way back in June 2022, 8 months before its release. It stars Patrick J. Adams as the protagonist who holds the power of changing the past. Other cast members were announced in August of the same year.
Although time travel is nothing new in television series, Plan B is one of the few shows that claim to focus solely on the drama and thriller aspects of the phenomena while also keeping in mind the changing relationships that eventually have a huge effect on the main character. From the trailer, we can expect Plan B to become a hit soon enough due to its exceptional cast and a well-written plot that’ll make you question everything you know about the concept of time.
Plan B: The Cast of the Show
The cast of this CBC series is made up entirely of well-known Canadian actors who have huge hits to their names. This is the reason why most of the viewers are impressed with the acting that was seen in the first episode of Plan B. The roles of Philip Grimmer and Evelyn Landry are portrayed by Patrick J. Adams and Karine Vanasse respectively. Born in Toronto, Patrick is the child of Claude Adams and Rowan Marsh. He shifted to Los Angeles when he was 19 and is an alumnus of the University of Southern California.
Adams began his career by working in Edward Albee’s play, which gave him enough exposure to land a role in a few scenes of Pretty Little Liars, Ghost Whisperers, and Heartland. He then proceeded to star in Suits, and in the 2008 series, Good Behavior. He had many roles as a guest in other shows as well. His most recent work before Plan B is in the series The Right Stuff, which used to air on Disney+. Patrick also had roles in movies like Old School and Rage.
Karine was brought up and raised in Quebec. At first, she was interested in a music career and landed a position in the Club des 100 watts show. She later appeared as a host in the show Les Debrouillards and was picked up to play a role in Set Me Free. She ended up winning the best actress award for her role in the movie. This was the start of her work in cinema and television, as she continued to be a part of shows like Deux Freres, October 1970, and Killer Wave. Her most recent appearance was in the 2020 show Cardinal.
Other cast members of Plan B include François Arnaud as Patrick Landry, Josh Close will be playing the role of Andy Tremblay, and Troian Bellisario plays the role of Miranda Delano. François is from Montreal and is a well-known local actor. He has starred in shows like Taxi 0-22, and later on in The Borgias, Blindspot, and Permission.
After filming another film Origami, he had to take a break due to the toll it had on him. He later returned to star in She’s in Portland (Luke) and The Switch (Leblanc). Josh close’s works include The Exorcism of Emily Rose (Jason), The Master (Wayne Gregory), The Blacklist (Dr. Julian Powell), and Monica (Paul).

Plan B: What’s the Plot?
When Philip comes across a flyer from a company called “Second Chance” claiming that they have a way of fixing the past, he calls the number and decides to go with the offer. Normally, people wouldn’t trust something like this, or just shrug it off as a joke, but Philip was at the lowest point of his life. His career was in shambles, with no proper source of income backing him up. Moreover, his wife was filing for divorce as things had gotten rough in the marriage and she didn’t feel the same way about him anymore.
He did his best to make things work between him and Evelyn Landry, his wife. Philip still loved her and wanted to make things the way they were before everything went downhill. This is what made him call the number out of curiosity, not expecting it to be able to help him. Soon enough, we see men showing up in his house and taking him to a vehicle, where he’s somehow transported back into the past. Before doing so, Philip is asked about his reason to go back to the past.

He gets back to the time he hadn’t met his wife yet. Now, with knowledge of what’s going to happen, Philip does his best to make things go the right way this time. He impresses his wife on their first meeting, and they manage to get into a relationship quickly. Despite having a second chance in life, he now realizes that things aren’t as simple as changing one thing that would make everything okay. He starts a cascade of reactions that are determined by every single thing he does.
Philip soon finds himself facing a much more complex situation than he could have imagined. From the trailer, it’s also apparent that something bigger at play gets involved in the life of Philip and Evelyn, something big enough to impact the country. The hotline didn’t ask for a price, because the price was not the usual money, it was something else that we’ll be able to see as the show progresses each week.
With the first few episodes aired, Philip has already contacted the hotline and got transferred back into the past. He knows what he is supposed to do, but feels overwhelmed at first. Seeing his wife be in love with him once again makes him happy and they start living the way they used to be once again, the only thing different is that Philip now knows his next move at all times. He makes up a plan that would make his long-term goals come true but sees that things are still going in a different direction even if he has an upper hand.
At times he gets jealous of other guys Evelyn talks to, although he already knows she’s going to be his wife. This shows Philip’s darker side which could have been the reason for the couple’s sad marriage. The trailer also shows him becoming desperate for things and using the hotline and time traveling several times, all to make his plan B a success.
