Plot of High Card anime
The plot of the anime goes like this. Finn is a happy-go-lucky guy who lives a joyous and carefree life out on the streets of his orphanage that he loves a lot. He doesn’t have a care in the world and is quite content. But one fateful day will prove to change everything he knew about life as it is.
His beloved orphanage falls into deep financial trouble, and he realizes that he was going to lose his only home and all his friends who live with him there. Eager to save the orphanage, Finn begins searching for ways to ease the financial crisis instead of wasting his time lamenting over his worries. He is struck with a crazy idea that seems fantastical to his mind.
As they say, desperate times call for desperate measures, so Finn decided to go to the casino to strike it rich and finally save his orphanage. But tragedy struck while he was trying his luck at the casino. He witnessed a nightmarish incident that involved a car chase and a gruesome shootout of a man who possessed what they called a “Lucky Card”. Though Finn had no idea why the incident occurred, the truth will not remain a mystery for long.
The entire world lies under the control of a deck of 52 X-playing cards. Yes, you heard it right. But these cards are no ordinary playing cards. This particular deck of cards has the insane ability to invoke supernatural abilities within a person in possession of them. If a normal human being possesses a single card from this 52-card deck, the card will bestow upon him the power to awaken his “Buddy,” which is found within every person. This “Buddy” is their very own supernatural ability.
Finn finds out that there is a top-secret group of card players under the direct order of the King of Fourland who have chosen them so that they can find and collect all the cards of the deck which have been scattered all over the world and bring it back to him so that he can have supreme power. During the day, these secret card players are disguised as workers for a prestigious car-making company called Pinochle.
Immediately seizing the opportunity that knocked at his door, Finn gets himself recruited as the fifth member of the secret card player group, and from then on, he, along with the rest of his team members, set into motion the dangerous mission of retrieving all the cards of the deck. But even more, obstacles block their path with Pinochle’s competitor, who is hell-bent on destroying the car-making company, and the notorious Klondikes standing in the way of their mission.

Main Characters in High Card anime
Finn Oldman-Finn is one of the main protagonists of the story. He is extremely courageous and can maintain a calm disposition even in the scariest situations. Finn is full of mischief and has a vibrant, colorful personality. He takes big risks and has little regard for his safety. Finn lost his parents in a fatal car crash when he was just a young boy and spent most of his youth in an orphanage to which he was very attached. He has the power to focus intently on his targets such that when he focuses on them, it is as if time has stopped. Because of this, he has excellent pickpocketing skills.
Leo Constatine Pinochle– At just 14 years of age, Leo is the manager of the Old Maid Branch of Pinochle and the leader of the High Card circle. Even if he is wrong at times, Leo would rather die than admit his mistakes. He has a biting reply for everything and has a sadistic nature that makes him come off as cold-hearted. Though he has his drawbacks, people still acknowledge him for his tactics. He has a penchant for spending money.
Chris Redgrave-Chris is really popular with women. He is 20 years old and a huge flirt. He can skilfully operate any vehicle as his driving skills are exemplary. He has street smarts and a sweet tooth though he can’t handle alcohol. Later on, he even becomes Finn’s mentor. Wendy Sato – Wendy is a gorgeous 21-year-old. She got into the High Card society with the help of the connections her father had. She is definitely not the friendly type and is often irritated by Finn and Chris. But she loves to eat and drink, and she becomes much more amiable toward others when she eats.
Vijay Kumar Singh– Vijay has a calm personality and is an avid nature lover. He is also a very talented chef. Vijay is a Ph.D. student at the University of Cribbage and works part-time as a lecturer. He has a rational mind which prevents him from gauging the people in the room emotionally, making him unable to understand the best behavior to put forward in a crowd. So people think of him as slightly moronic even though he is quite intelligent and perfect in any work.
