Made with the collaborative direction of Huang Jun Wen, Hu Yi Juan, and Chen Guo Hua, the romance series titled Beauty of Resilience is a thirty-six-part show that was released on June 1st, 2023. The show follows an intense story about fantastical realms and creatures, including immortal godly beings. In more technical terms, the series belongs to a category of the xianxia genre, which is a fantasy period drama that takes heavy inspiration from ancient Chinese mythology, tales of immortal heroes, and other philosophies.
The screenplay for the series has been written by Qian Jue, who has managed to beautifully incorporate stories and legends into this romantic drama. The show opens with the Wei Kingdom of the mortal world, where young mortal teenagers participate in the coming-of-age festival to eventually get onto the path of becoming immortal. But this time, Wei Zhi, one of the teenage girls ready to participate in the ceremony, finds herself stuck with the group that showed the lost phoenix’s presence.
Wei Zhi is known to be quiet, unlucky, and withdrawn from people. Though she likes to keep to herself, it does not mean that she does not stand up for herself or for what she thinks is right. Her entire group, a total of thirty-six people, gets sent to the Erget Academy, where the teachers try to figure out who would be the one with the phoenix within them.
Yan Yue, their teacher, turns out to be the Sun God and the Monarch of the Heavens, who is here to find the one with the phoenix bloodline because, according to old legends and myth, the one with the blood of the phoenix would be destined to kill and end all the three existing realms. Not only is this his duty, but it is also the test of his life to catch the phoenix bloodline and kill it. And it is while he remains disguised as their teacher that he develops a liking for Wei Zhi, and the two grow closer.
