The Australian Environmentalist was born on 22 February 1962 in Upper Ferntree Gully, Victoria, Australia. Interestingly, he was born on his mother’s twentieth birth anniversary. He belongs of mixed descent. His parents were both of English and Irish descent. Steve has done his schooling at Landsborough State School and Caloundra State High School. His interest in wildlife is because of his parents. Irwin’s father, Bob, was a wildlife expert, and his mother, Lyn, was a wildlife rehabilitator.

Though he was born in Victoria, Steve spent his childhood in Queensland. His parents were moved to Queensland in 1970. In Queensland, his parents opened a small reptile and crocodile park, and it helped him to sharpen his knowledge about reptiles. His parents involved him in the day-to-day activities of the park and also gifted him a syrup python on his 6th birthday. In 1996, Steve started his television career. He and his wife Terri starred in the documentary television series “The Crocodile Hunter.” The series received positive reviews from the critics and fans, and then later, he worked on several other shows and documentaries.

How Did Steve Irwin Die?

Steve Irwin died on 4 September 2006 in an accident that occurred during the filming for his show “Ocean’s Deadliest.” He was filming for the show with Philippe Cousteau Jr. When a short-tail stingray pierced his chest, causing his thoracic wall to crash in a second. The deadly accident happened while he was at Batt Reef, near Port Douglas, Queensland. His death was captured in the video. It’s the only death speculated to be the casualty of the deadly Stingray that was recorded on cameras. However, the clip was never released on television.

While he was swimming in chest-deep water to film the short-tail Stingray, out of a sudden, the Stingray appeared in front of him, giving him no time to respond. The Stingray attacked him with its tail. Initially, he believed it only punched his lungs. However, in reality, it damaged his heart, resulting in his death. The medical team approached him and tried their best to save him; however, it was too late.

His death evoked the fans, media, and all no-profit NGOs, highlighting the fact to be careful while filming for animal series. Five days later, on 9 September, his funeral took place in the presence of his loved ones and later was buried in a private Australian Zoo. Following his death, a public memorial service took place on 30 September and was aired on television.
