During a December 23 episode of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Off the Vine podcast, Fedotowsky, 40, revealed she struggled with health issues while hosting First Look. At a Bachelor event in New York, she confided in Allemand, who suggested trying a pescetarian diet.
“She told me, ‘You should try being a pescetarian. I’ve done it for years and feel great,’” Fedotowsky shared. Days after that conversation, Allemand tragically passed away by suicide in 2013 at age 29.
Since then, the memory of their dinner has profoundly impacted Fedotowsky. “I told myself I’d try it for two weeks, but every time I thought about eating meat, I remembered Gia. I haven’t had a single bite of meat since then,” she explained.
Fedotowsky admitted she had rarely shared this story in detail. “I’ve briefly mentioned it on Instagram, but this is the real reason,” she said.
Her decision has also influenced her family. Fedotowsky’s husband, Kevin Manno, initially a meat eater, transitioned to veganism after watching documentaries with her. Although he now includes some animal products due to limited options in the South, Fedotowsky continues her vegetarian lifestyle.
Reflecting on her friendship with Allemand, Fedotowsky shared how their bond deepened after The Bachelor. “We butted heads on the show, but we reconnected later. That says so much about her character—she was just so lovely.”
Fedotowsky, who married Manno in 2017, cherishes this lifestyle change that stems from such a meaningful connection. Together, they raise two children, Molly, 8, and Riley, 6, and continue to honor Allemand’s memory through their choices.
