Henry Cavill is set to executive produce Amazon's upcoming Warhammer 40,000 animated series while remaining attached to the live-action adaptation.

Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly expanding its Warhammer 40,000 universe with a new animated series, and Henry Cavill is set to play a major role behind the scenes. According to Variety, Cavill will serve as an executive producer on the upcoming project, which is being developed alongside the previously announced live-action adaptation that has remained in development since Amazon secured the rights to Games Workshop’s iconic sci-fi franchise.

The report suggests the animated series will build on the success of the Warhammer 40,000 episode featured in Amazon’s anthology series Secret Level, giving fans another major adaptation while the live-action project continues to move forward.

Secret Level spin-off expands Amazon’s Warhammer universe

According to Variety, the animated series will be produced by Blur Studio, Amazon MGM Studios, and Games Workshop. Dave Wilson, who directed the acclaimed Warhammer 40,000 episode of Secret Level, will co-create and direct the series alongside Band of Brothers writer John Orloff.

Henry Cavill joins the production as an executive producer alongside Tim Miller and Natalie Viscuso.

Discussing the new project, Wilson told Variety,

“The response to the Warhammer episode [of Secret Level] was extraordinary, particularly from fans who understood how much care went into getting the world right. This series gives us the opportunity to build on that foundation and tell a much larger story.”

The report adds that the series will focus on the elite Deathwatch Space Marines as they battle alien threats within the grimdark Warhammer 40,000 universe.

While the animated series is moving ahead, Amazon has not abandoned its live-action Warhammer ambitions. The live-action project starring and executive produced by Cavill remains in development, although few official updates have been shared since Amazon and Games Workshop finalized their creative agreement.

Amazon first announced its partnership with Games Workshop in late 2022, with Cavill attached to help shape the franchise. Since then, the companies have repeatedly stated their intention to develop multiple Warhammer projects across television and film.

Although production details for the live-action series remain under wraps, the addition of an animated spin-off signals that Amazon continues to view Warhammer 40,000 as a long-term franchise with significant expansion potential.
