Voice actor Tōru Furuya recently addressed an affair he had with a fan. On his X account (formerly Twitter), Furuya confirmed the magazine’s account and revealed that he had been in a relationship with a female fan for four and a half years until September.
He explained that he became attracted to her due to her genuine support and decided to initiate contact, which led to the affair.
During their relationship, Furuya admitted to striking her once during an argument and causing her to have an abortion.
He expressed remorse for the physical and mental harm he inflicted on the woman and apologized to his fans for betraying their trust and tarnishing the image of the characters he had voiced. Furuya stated that he intends to spend the rest of his life atoning for his actions and is ready to face any consequences.
Furuya’s career spans over 50 years, with roles in more than 100 titles. He is best known for voicing Tuxedo Mask in Sailor Moon, Amuro Ray in Mobile Suit Gundam, Yamcha in Dragon Ball, and Tōru Amuro/Rei Furuya in Detective Conan.
His other notable roles include Sabo in One Piece, Pegasus Seiya in Saint Seiya, Kyosuke Kasuga in Kimagure Orange Road, and Ribbons Almark in Mobile Suit Gundam 00.
