As speculation surrounding a Grand Theft Auto IV remaster continues, Jason Zumwalt, the voice actor behind Roman Bellic, has shared his own thoughts on why Rockstar Games has yet to revisit the acclaimed 2008 title. Speaking in a recent interview, Zumwalt admitted that he would welcome a remaster but remains puzzled by why it has not already happened.

His comments arrive amid continued rumors that Rockstar could eventually bring GTA 4 to modern platforms following the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, although the studio has not officially announced such a project.

Jason Zumwalt Wants to See GTA 4 Return

During an interview with Love It Film, Zumwalt was asked whether he would like to see Grand Theft Auto IV receive the remaster treatment.

The actor responded enthusiastically, saying,

“I’d love it. I don’t know why they haven’t done it.”

Zumwalt then speculated that the delay could potentially be related to Screen Actors Guild (SAG) contracts, suggesting Rockstar might not want to revisit agreements tied to the original game’s production. However, he stressed that this was only his personal theory and not based on insider knowledge.

Zumwalt also praised Grand Theft Auto IV, describing it as the strongest narrative in the series. According to the actor, the game’s story felt more personal and emotionally grounded than later entries, making it stand out among Rockstar’s open-world titles.

His comments echo the sentiments of many longtime fans, who continue to regard Niko Bellic’s journey through Liberty City as one of the franchise’s most memorable stories.

Discussion around GTA 4’s voice cast has occasionally referenced actor Michael Hollick, who voiced Niko Bellic and previously spoke publicly about his compensation for the project. Zumwalt noted that both actors returned for the game’s downloadable expansions, suggesting those earlier issues did not prevent further collaboration with Rockstar.

No Official Word From Rockstar

Despite persistent reports and fan demand, Rockstar Games has not confirmed that a Grand Theft Auto IV remaster is in development. For now, the project remains the subject of industry rumors rather than official announcements.

Still, Zumwalt’s support adds another notable voice to the conversation, with even one of the game’s most recognizable actors hoping Liberty City’s critically acclaimed adventure eventually returns for a new generation of players.
