Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown will use the game’s existing overworld map to track underwater discoveries instead of introducing a separate map layer for diving. Pearl Abyss marketing and public relations director Will Powers confirmed the approach during an appearance on Dropped Frames, where he was asked how players would navigate the ocean floor.
“I think it’s just overworld map, but baked into it,”
Powers explained. He then clarified that underwater points of interest will appear on the same map when players discover them. This means players can use the familiar map interface to keep track of underwater locations without switching between separate surface and underwater views.
The detail offers a clearer look at how exploration will work in the upcoming expansion. Charting the Unknown introduces ocean travel and underwater exploration to Crimson Desert Enhanced, allowing players to search beneath the waves for hidden locations and rewards. The DLC is scheduled to launch on October 29 in GMT/PT regions, with its release falling on October 30 in Asia.
Underwater Discoveries Will Be Added to the Existing Map

During the interview, Powers confirmed that underwater points of interest would be integrated into the overworld map rather than displayed on a dedicated underwater layer. Players will first need to discover these locations before they appear on the map, keeping exploration an important part of the experience.
The feature also gives players a familiar way to track discoveries as they explore beneath the surface. Instead of relying on an entirely separate navigation system, the game will integrate underwater exploration into its existing map structure.
Powers also explained that players should not expect every part of the ocean floor to be packed with secrets. He compared underwater exploration to the land, where some areas have little to discover while others contain more valuable locations.
Players who search hidden corners of the ocean can find treasure chests and other worthwhile discoveries. Pearl Abyss has also confirmed that the expansion will feature underwater ruins, new creatures, and mounts, adding more reasons to venture beneath the waves.
