R.L. Stine’s iconic series Goosebumps had yet another adaptation this year. Instead of the usual children-focused plot, this Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller series is more of a Horror Comedy aimed at people of all ages.
Sony Pictures had revealed that it was working on an interesting Goosebumps TV show way back in 2020, but it finally ended up premiering in October 2023.
Rather than continuing the storyline seen in the nostalgic TV series or the more recent films, Nicholas and Rob’s Goosebumps follows a new world that’s going to be filled with monsters and items seen throughout Goosebumps books. This includes things like the camera from “Say Cheese and Die!” and the mask from “The Haunted Mask.”
The plot follows a group of seemingly normal high schoolers who fall into a rabbit hole after coming across the mysterious death of Harold Biddie. While lonely teenager Harold’s death happened three decades ago, it somehow seems to be connected to the friend group.
The cast of the new Goosebumps series consists of Zack Morris in the role of Isaiah, Isa Briones as Margot, Miles McKenna as James, and Justin Long playing the role of the English teacher, Mr. Bratt.
Goosebumps 2023: Filming Locations
With the cinematographer for the Goosebumps series being Thomas Yatsko, the major filming location was chosen to be British Columbia, Canada. Filming for this R.L. Stine-inspired Hulu and Disney+ series began sometime in October 2022 and ended earlier this year in March 2023.
Cloverdale, British Columbia:
Cloverdale is a perfect place for a horror and mystery series like Goosebumps due to its small-town atmosphere and older buildings. One of Surrey’s six town centers, this cozy location is filled with heritage sites and historically significant locations.
Cloverdale isn’t exactly new to being selected as a filming spot. If anything, it’s the go-to place for producers looking for a small town that gives off a slow-paced and remote feeling.
Other than the new Goosebumps, various television series and movies you may not know were filmed in Cloverdale, including Smallville, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and the Scooby-Doo films.
Vancouver, British Columbia:
Vancouver’s a bustling seaport city that’s known for its scenic views and various fun outdoor activities. The laidback atmosphere and charm of Vancouver make it a great place for filming all kinds of TV shows or movies.
Cates Park, North Vancouver, can be spotted in this horror series. One of the largest parks in North Vancouver, Cates Park has a wide range of fun places to hang out, like the sunny beach and the grass field, & hosts activities like swimming, Kayaking, or just simple beach combing.
You may recognize places around Vancouver from shows like Supernatural, Criminal Minds, House, and The X-Files. Its wide range of architecture and places, such as parks, malls, and restaurants, allow Vancouver to serve as a one-stop place for filming any project with ease.
Whistler, British Columbia:
One of Canada’s best holiday places, Whistler’s, is filled with various resorts, skiing activities, and provincial parks. This municipality, located in the southern Pacific Ranges, is a great place for skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer, with fun activities to do no matter which season you’re visiting.
While Vancouver remains the main location, Whistler is another spot the Goosebumps cast had to travel to. The Whistler Olympic Park, located at 1500 Callaghan Valley Rd, Whistler, is where the Goosebumps crew were spotted during the filming period.
Considered a great place for enjoying outdoor recreational activities and all kinds of sports, Whistler Olympic Park is a place you need to visit if you’re an outdoor person who loves skiing with great views.
Besides experiencing the refreshing snowy wonderland, the park also hosts a one-of-a-kind sport called Biathlon. Not many TV shows or films have used this spot before, making Goosebumps the first one to introduce its viewers to one of the best places in the whole of Whistler.
Exciting episodes of the new Goosebumps series are available to watch on Hulu and Disney+.
