One of the biggest emotional takeaways from the God of War Laufey panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 wasn’t a new trailer or gameplay reveal. Instead, it came from the cast’s discussion about the relationship between Kratos and Faye, with actor Christopher Judge offering new insight into the couple’s emotional bond. While Sony Santa Monica confirmed that God of War Laufey launches on February 16, 2027, much of the panel focused on the game’s characters rather than major story reveals.
During the discussion, Judge and Deborah Ann Woll, who portrays Faye, described the pair as two deeply wounded individuals whose ability to understand each other’s struggles became the foundation of their relationship. Their comments offered fans a clearer picture of the emotional themes driving the upcoming prequel.
Christopher Judge explains why Kratos and Faye were meant for each other
The panel featured director Ariel Lawrence, actors Christopher Judge, Deborah Ann Woll, Perlina Lau, and Jack Quaid, while Santa Monica Studio creative head Cory Barlog served as moderator. Although attendees expected new gameplay footage or additional story information, the conversation instead centered on the cast’s experiences and the emotional relationships that define the game.
When discussing Kratos and Faye, Judge borrowed a famous line from the comedy film Wedding Crashers to explain how he views their relationship.
“Love is a soul finding its own reflection in another.”
He stopped short of revealing story spoilers but added that the quote perfectly captures the pair’s connection.
“Their journeys mirror each other like their hearts and souls.”
Judge’s comments suggest that God of War Laufey will continue exploring the emotional side of Kratos introduced in the Norse saga, while giving players a much deeper understanding of the woman whose influence shaped his future.

Deborah Ann Woll says Faye needed someone who believed in her
Deborah Ann Woll expanded on Judge’s comments by explaining that both characters recognize the emotional scars carried by the other. According to the actress, Faye often struggles with self-doubt despite her strength and determination.
“I think Faye, she is very hard on herself, and she needed someone to tell her she was enough, and Kratos was that person.”
Rather than portraying their relationship as a simple romance, Woll described it as one built on mutual acceptance. Both characters carry painful histories, but instead of allowing those experiences to divide them, they become the reason they understand one another.
The discussion also touched on the dynamic between Faye, Rue, and Phranque. Jack Quaid explained that the trio constantly learn from one another, saying they each have
“the pleasure of seeing the world through each other’s eyes,”
allowing every character to grow throughout the adventure. Woll agreed, describing Faye as the group’s driving force while emphasizing that none of the three could succeed alone.
Outside of the relationship discussion, the panel included several behind-the-scenes stories. Judge recalled initially hesitating to accept a role in a video game before reading the script, while also revealing that Sunny Suljic, who portrayed Atreus in the Norse games, played an important role in selecting the new Kratos. Deborah Ann Woll also shared an amusing story about accidentally breaking a famous prop from The Last of Us Part II during an early performance capture session.
Although the panel offered few new gameplay details, its focus on Kratos and Faye’s emotional journey gave fans a better understanding of the heart of God of War Laufey. With the game scheduled to launch on February 16, 2027, the cast’s comments suggest the story will place just as much emphasis on the couple’s relationship as it does on action and mythology.
