Causing much of a stir with K-drama fans lately, the South Korean series ‘Moving‘ premiered on the 9th of August, 2023. The much-awaited show boasts not only a brilliant veteran cast but also an extravagant budget of a whopping 60 billion KRW (around 45 million USD) and a fast-growing fanbase as well.
The trend of webtoons inspiring many mega-hit dramas started in 2022 and is clearly going strong, as ‘Moving’ is another show that falls into that category.
The story is based on a webtoon by the same name, authored by well-known artist Kang Full (also known for his works Hello, Schoolgirl, The Neighbor, and 26 Years), and revolves around the lives of those who have superhuman powers and extraordinary abilities.
The Star Cast of ‘Moving’: Go Yoon Jung’s impact
Even before the show aired, the cast of the show made heads turn all around, with names such as Ryu Seung Ryong, Jo In Sung, Han Hyo Joo, Cha Tae Hyun, and Ryu Seung Bum promising an engaging and captivating performance together.
As the first seven episodes of the drama were released (which form the Prologue part of the show), viewers immediately latched on to Go Yoon Jung (in the role of Hee Soo) and her incredible acting skills. The ‘Law School‘ star has truly upped her game in the new drama, acing everything from emotionally heavy scenes to action-packed fight sequences.
Playing a worried teenager with not just the pressure of adolescent life upon her but also that of her family’s financial instability and her problems with hiding her powers, Yoon Jung has left a real impression on audiences.
What to look out for in ‘Moving’
With 15 of the 20 episodes already out, actors Lee Jung Ha (who plays Bong Suk) and Kim Do Hoon (who plays Kang Hoon) have also shown remarkable performances in their realistic portrayals of all the anxieties that these young high school kids have to go through.
Having inherited their special abilities from their parents, the students soon realize that hiding their powers isn’t just a case of sitting in but, in fact, a matter of life and death.
As a mysterious and highly deadly organization starts to literally hunt down the three one by one, their lives swiftly take a drastic turn. Even as the students tussle with their mom and dad, as most teenagers do, they know that at the end of the day, it is solely their parents who truly look out for them.
While many thought that episodes 1 to 7 were rather slow-paced and not particularly engaging, the later episodes completely flipped the script and introduced a whole lot of action and intricate storytelling. Any fan of sci-fi and superhero stuff, in general, is definitely in for a treat with ‘Moving.’
Drama buffs would know that another interesting aspect of this cast is the return of Han Hyo Joo to the small screen. Multi-talented in acting, modeling, and singing, Han Hyo Joo’s last drama ‘Happiness‘ aired back in 2021, after which the actor was engaged primarily in films. Her role as Lee Mi Hyun (Bong Suk’s mother) is a very emotional one, especially as her flashbacks owe a lot to the storyline in general.
Speaking of, it is also interesting to see other veteran actors such as Jo In Sung and Ryu Seung Ryong in the mix and how the younger and fast-improving actors of the cast perform alongside them.
Whether you’re watching it for the high-budget production, riveting plot progression, or just out of curiosity, no one can deny that Go Yoon Jung’s striking beauty, coupled with the charisma that the role requires, definitely makes the highlight of ‘Moving.’
