George Lopez, the beloved comedian, shares an intriguing mix of personal stories and quirky facts in a recent interview with Us Weekly. Lopez reveals his fascination with binge-watching reality TV shows, confessing that he couldn’t stop watching Netflix’s Love Is Blind. Despite the show’s addictive nature, Lopez admits, “I couldn’t change that f—ing channel for a week,” after finishing all seven seasons of the dating series.
Love Is Blind follows singles who date in isolation pods without seeing each other. Only after a proposal is accepted do they meet face-to-face. The show’s success has led to a new season, set to premiere in February 2025. Lopez, however, may have to balance his love for reality TV with his role on the NBC series Lopez vs Lopez, which returns on January 3, 2025.
The show stars Lopez alongside his daughter, Mayan Lopez, and he describes a touching moment from the series. “My favorite scene in Lopez vs Lopez is seeing Mayan in a wedding dress [in season 2, episode 10],” he shares, showcasing their close real-life father-daughter relationship.
Lopez offers a list of fun personal facts, revealing that The Notorious B.I.G. was his number-one artist on his 2024 Spotify Wrapped. He also reflects on his youth, sharing that at 15, he sold flowers to buy a guitar—a passion that has since evolved into a collection of nearly 100 guitars, with a few prized ones from Eddie Van Halen. Music has been a significant part of his life, as he’s played guitar daily for the past 12 years.
When it comes to his comfort food, Lopez fondly remembers a dish his grandmother made: elbow macaroni with ragu, ground hamburger, and olives. He also reveals his favorite wardrobe item: Louis Vuitton slides that he vowed never to get wet. His first car was a 1976 Ford LTD, which he once fixed with his grandfather after a gas leak.
Lopez’s nostalgic side comes through in his favorite book, Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss, and his love for the song “Old Days” by Chicago. The track brings back fond memories of his school days, especially of friends who are no longer around.
In a more mysterious admission, Lopez shares that his house is haunted. He recalls hearing bangs in the attic and even hearing a spirit speak his name. However, until the ghost touches him, Lopez remains unbothered by the paranormal activity.
Lopez’s childhood was filled with musical inspirations, from Kiss to Carlos Santana, whose music he grew up idolizing. Ironically, Lopez has become friends with many of the idols he once had posters of, though he admits to hiding Playboy centerfolds in his closet.
Other fun tidbits from Lopez include his favorite vacation spot—Cabo—and his proudest career achievement: receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006. He fondly remembers standing on George Burns’ star as a teenager and imagining his own name in its place.
