Soon after this, Bernard gets fired from the job. But an unconventional Christmas gift falls in his hands, and he discovers an ancient antique that has a Genie inside it, Flora.
With her help, Bernard tries to win his family back. In the process, he also learns to get loose. His situation changes overnight and alters his life’s trajectory completely. Let’s see what happens at the end.
Synopsis
In a city that never sleeps, New York’s resident Bernard’s taxi job keeps him very busy, and he stays up late until night to his work. He promises to enjoy ice skating with his family; he even leaves his office early, but Flaxman, his boss, finds an excuse to keep him at work.
When he reaches late at home late, he finds Eve has fallen asleep. To make things worse for him, he forgets to be a dollhouse for her when she specifically wants.
His wife, Julie, initiates a breakup and leaves for her mother’s house with her daughter. She asks Bernard not to join them. The next morning, Bernard also loses his job, a job he worked so much for, and even pushes his family.
In the holidays, he sees that his marriage life is falling apart. But things changed for him one day when he ran into an old jewelry box in his home.
As soon as he runs it, a cloud of blue color appears, and Flora, the genie, comes out of those clouds, claiming that she’s a Genie. Flora convinces him that she’s actually a Genie by showing off some magic tricks. Bernard now has a Genie and unlimited wishes.
What does Flora’s Note Mean?
Bernard tries everything to fix things with her family, but his actions cannot reverse the damage that he did. Eve and Julie had to watch him miss family moments like holidays and Thanksgiving.
By prioritizing work over Eve’s birthday, Bernard made it look like he chose to work over his family. Julie loves him but doesn’t want to continue with him. Bernard’s big gestures fail to fix the mess that he previously created. Bernard and Julie both begin to realize that their marriage will not last.
But Flora has different plans for both of them. Throughout she watches, Bernard uses her wishes to make others happy. He could’ve wished for power and wealth, but he wished for pizza and charity from the rich people.
Bernard wants his family to love him. After Bernard releases Flora, as he wishes to set Flora free, she gives him a bottle that has written, “This might come in handy.”
Initially, her message is oblivious and misunderstood, but he realizes that the code mentioned in the message is the exact time when his boss asked him to say it. Before going free, Flora also said that time travel is possible because of Genie Magic.
Bernard smartly solves Flora’s bottle code, which advises him to use three final wishes and make things right.
The Final Three Wishes
Flora told Bernard that the concept of only three wishes is a myth. We see Bernard make endless wishes in the movie. In the end, he decides to accept Flora’s wish to be free.
She reveals that even after getting free, she can fulfill three final wishes. Now Bernard has three final wishes: he uses his first wish to go back in time, he deliberately quits his job, and he returns home to celebrate her daughter’s birthday.
He took a dollhouse for her and changed the ice skating plan to a grand dinner. He did everything to make sure that things didn’t mess up. He uses his second wish to get an empty table space in a busy, scheduled restaurant.
He uses his final wish to ask for his daughter’s unambiguous happiness. The restaurant has a policy for off-the-menu ordering, which prevented Eve from getting cherry ice cream and peanut butter sandwiches.
By wishing his daughter to get what she wants, he uses all three wishes to create a perfect, lovely moment for his family. By doing so, he clears all the doubts in Julie’s mind about their family and relationship, sending the family back on the happy path.
