The show that has grandparents and their grandchildren competing on the same stage, Generation Gap, will be returning with a new episode this week. With season 1 of this interesting gameshow managing to become a hit last year, Kelly Ripa is back on ABC with fresh teams and entertaining pop questions.
Generation Gap has been airing on television since July 7th, 2022. With Kelly as host, each episode begins with Grandparent-Grandchildren duos working together to answer a series of questions revolving around television shows, popular actors, singers, and films.
The older generation has to answer questions revolving around newer celebs, while the grandchildren would have to know quite a bit about the 1960s to 1990s entertainment since that’s what they’re asked. If the duo manages to guess the answer within the time limit, they’re awarded a cash prize.
As the entertaining rounds go on, the amount of cash prizes given to them increases. Winning the final round will give the team a chance to take home amazing prizes like a brand new car or prizes geared towards children, like toys and playhouses.
What the team will win depends on the youngest member of their family, as they are called on stage to pick the prize of their liking. As risky as this is, it’s what makes Generation Gap such a fun show to watch.
Generation Gap Season 2 Episode 1: Recap
In last week’s episode, the contestants to compete were Everton & Peyton, Diane & Joseph, and Virgil & his grandson, Micah. The first game they play is “What Do You Know?” where simple warm-up questions are asked. Each correct answer will add another 500 dollars to the prize pot.
Juniors were up first, and they had to provide answers to questions from the 1960s-1980s. None of the younger members could answer the questions, so the answers were provided by their grandparents for a steal, giving each team only $250.
When the grandparents are asked questions about popular celebs like Drake, Zac Efron, and Hadid Sisters, only a few questions can be answered on time. Up next were the general questions revolving around old games, TV shows, and newer films.
With the early round ending, the money pot of Peyton and Everton was $500, Joseph and Diana had $750, and Micah and Virgil had $1,250. Kelly then asks each team questions to get to know them better, which is always a wholesome and heartwarming session. Micah and Virgil even presented a wonderful ukulele performance.
The next round is “I Second That Emoji,” where they have to guess the meaning behind a set of emojis, which could represent a movie or TV show. Each right answer would give the Grandparent-Grandchildren duo a total of $1,000.
The scores by the end of this emoji guessing game were $1,500 (Peyton & Everton), $2,150 (Joseph & Diane), and $3,250 (Micah & Virgil). A special celebrity arrives to host the “Don’t You Know Who I Am?“, which is none other than Jojo Siwa herself.
The final question is worth $2,000 and is where the grandparents are asked to guess the celebrity. After another game, Joseph and Diane are eliminated. The team to win the game show in the last episode was Peyton and Everton, where they won a foldable play house, as chosen by the family’s toddler.
