A brand-new trailer for Garfield: Escape From Monday has been revealed, giving players a first look at a strange and comedic adventure starring the iconic lazy cat. Announced by Microids and OSome Studio, the game introduces a surreal, vegetable-filled nightmare that flips Garfield’s usual routine on its head.
The reveal coincides with National Garfield Day, adding a thematic touch to the announcement as fans get a glimpse of what’s shaping up to be one of the character’s most unusual video game outings yet.
A Nightmare That Even Garfield Can’t Ignore
At the center of the game is a bizarre premise that sees Garfield trapped in a nightmare after eating an unusual meal. According to the official press release,
“For Garfield, spending most of his time sleeping is part of the routine. But spiralling into a bizarre nightmare full of vegetables, sugar-free candies, and other unimaginable horrors, even the world’s laziest cat knows something is wrong!”
The story kicks off when Jon feeds Garfield a spinach lasagna inspired by Chef Monday, triggering a deep sleep. From there, the player must guide Garfield through increasingly strange environments to help him wake up and regain his appetite.
This setup cleverly plays on Garfield’s long-established love for lasagna while introducing a humorous twist by turning vegetables into a central threat.
Gameplay Focus: Exploration, Combat, and Collectibles
Unlike traditional Garfield games, Escape From Monday leans heavily into 3D platforming mechanics. Players will navigate through multiple worlds filled with enemies, obstacles, and collectibles, all while trying to restore Garfield’s “taste buds” by consuming large amounts of lasagna.
The game encourages exploration, offering a variety of abilities that align with Garfield’s personality. Players can jump, climb walls, and curl into a ball, creating a fluid movement system designed for platforming challenges.
Customization also plays a role, with Garfield able to equip different costumes that provide unique abilities. Whether gliding as a turkey, sliding like a surfer, or swinging with a cowboy lasso, each form adds variety to gameplay and helps overcome different obstacles.

Familiar Faces and New Challenges
Fans of the franchise will be pleased to see well-known characters returning. Jon, Odie, Arlene, and Pookie all appear in the game, assisting Garfield throughout his journey. At the same time, classic rivals like Nermal and Squeak add tension by appearing as enemies within the nightmare world.
The environments themselves are designed to feel lively and unpredictable. Players will explore three distinct worlds packed with levels, enemies, and puzzles. Each area introduces new mechanics while maintaining the game’s core focus on collecting lasagna and progressing through Garfield’s dreamscape.
One of the more interesting gameplay systems involves upgrading Jon’s house. As players collect items and complete challenges, they can use their rewards to refurbish and customize the home environment.
This adds a layer of progression beyond standard platforming, encouraging players to continue exploring and gathering collectibles. It also ties into the game’s lighthearted tone, reinforcing the idea that even Garfield’s nightmare has a sense of humor and charm.
