In a recent episode of SBS Power FM’s “Cultwo Show,” an audience member shared intriguing insights about working as a manager for Korean celebrities, including the popular actress Han So Hee.
The hosts discussed notable stars like Jung Woo Sung and Lee Jung Jae, who began their careers after being discovered in Apgujeong-dong, a wealthy neighborhood in Seoul known for its significance in the K-drama industry.
The audience member, who worked as a manager for four to five years, recounted his experiences, particularly the demanding nature of the job.
He revealed that managers often had to scout for talent through street casting and accompany their clients during long filming hours, sometimes getting as little as seven hours of sleep per week. This grueling schedule eventually led him to quit due to the challenging and unhealthy work pattern.
The manager’s last client was Han So Hee, a rising star who gained fame for her role in the hit K-drama “The World of the Married.”
Her portrayal of the antagonist Yeo Da Kyung charmed audiences, leading to more significant roles in dramas like “Nevertheless” and the Netflix series “My Name,” where she showcased her versatility and action skills.
An interesting anecdote shared during the show was about Han So Hee’s tattoos. Before her acting debut, Han So Hee had large tattoos on her arms, which her agency, 9Ato Entertainment, instructed her to remove.
The removal process, which cost approximately $17,000 (20 million KRW), was necessary for her to fit the image required for her roles.
The episode highlighted the often overlooked and strenuous work behind managing celebrities and the sacrifices both managers and stars make in the entertainment industry. Han So Hee’s journey from a tattooed newcomer to a celebrated actress underscores the dedication and transformation involved in achieving success in K-drama.
