FLCL will return on Adult Swim, a programming block by the Cartoon Network, with two new seasons this year, according to the announcement done on Toonami’s twenty-fifth anniversary. The upcoming seasons are FLCL: Grunge and FLCL: Shoegaze. Thus, Naota Nandaba will return to handle the mysterious central character, Haruko Haruhara.
FLCL Season 3, FLCL: Alternative, aired from September 2018 to October 2018. The first episode aired at midnight on the April Fool’s Day on Toonami in Japanese. The previous season focused on Kana Koumoto, a high school student who had to deal with her transition from teenage to adulthood and save Earth from Medical Mechanica. Thanks to Haruko, who guided Koumoto and her friends as a mentor to deal with these issues.

FLCL Season 3 Recap
FLCL: Alternative, the third season, had only six episodes. Kana Koumoto is a high school girl without a career path. She meets some creepy customers at her after-school job. Haruhara Haruko arrives out of the blue and helps Kana fight the monsters at the workplace. Tsukasa Kanda from the Department of Interstellar Immigration also appears in the first episode.
Kana and her friends design a rocket out of empty soda bottles and launch it into space, though their rocket will never go there. Hijiri gets attracted to a photographer, Toshio Shioya, whose car transforms into a mech. Haruko destroys it before it gets more disastrous.
Mossan’s health deteriorates after working hard at the construction site to pay for her fashion-designing course. Her friends decide to take the same job, but she gets angry as she wants to earn independently. Haruko wears a dress designed by Mossan in the fashion contest, making Mossan feel proud.
Kana has a crush on her schoolmate, Sasaki, but Haruko informs her that she is still immature for a relationship with Sasaki. Kana takes Sasaki in a corner and tries to kiss him. However, as Haruko said, she does not kiss because she feels that she is not ready for a relationship.
The Prime Minister suspects that the sudden global warming and the Medical Mecahnica are the fruits of Haruko’s presence on Earth. Thus, he orders Kanda to send her away. Meanwhile, Haruko saves Pets, who ran from her house, from the Terminal Core. Kana discovers Pets’ hatred towards her.
Another Terminal Core activates the Medical Mechanica plants, and the Earth will flatten within two days. A massive N.O. reaction occurs, which sucks the Medical Mechanica plants, the Terminal Core, and Haruko. It is how Haruko goes to Mars. Later, Kana begins with her life with her friends.
FLCL Season 4 Preview
According to FLCL: Grunge trailer, in the fourth season, we will discover a character, Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, from the Marvel comics. Thus, many viewers are excited for the upcoming season. However, some think the production companies should not have created one more season. Instead, it should have ended with the previous one.
The fourth season will work as the prequel to the original FLCL. The youth goes with the flow, accepting the poverty and decline in the city. However, they get triggered when Haruko messes with the city.
In the first episode, Shinpachi cooks a strange fish, and Haruko appears at the restaurant with the Mayor and a robot who wants to destroy Earth. In the second episode, Dainari gives her best to go to another planet to save Shonari. In the third episode, Orinoko and Haruko meet each other while collecting scrap iron for their needs.
