Nintendo has officially revealed Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, the newest entry in the long-running tactical RPG franchise, during a dedicated Fire Emblem Direct presentation. The game will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, 2026, introducing players to a new fantasy world filled with gods, heroes, strategic warfare, and a battle against an approaching apocalypse.

Set in the prosperous Dagdan Empire, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave follows a world where warriors from across the land gather for the legendary Heroic Games. The winner of the tournament receives a single wish from the empire’s ruler, but the competition hides a much greater destiny connected to four heroes who will determine the future of the world.

Five years after the Heroic Games, the revived demon god Balor threatens to destroy the empire. With four legendary heroes missing, the progenitor god Sothis chooses the player as the one person capable of changing fate and preventing the world’s destruction.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Introduces Four Heroes and a Time-Changing Story

The story of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave places players at the center of a conflict where choices can reshape history. Using the goddess Fortuna’s time-traveling powers, players can revisit the past and alter the paths of the four heroes connected to the Heroic Games.

The four playable heroes each bring their own motivations and personal stories. Cai, a young warrior from the peaceful village of Ribeira, enters the Heroic Games alongside childhood friends in an attempt to save his imprisoned father. Dietrich, who survives an attack from a massive monster, joins the competition to satisfy his desire for battle and find new allies.

Theodora represents the kingdom of Saramis and fights to restore the honor of her goddess while protecting her homeland. Meanwhile, Leda, born into a prestigious family, abandons her previous life to seek revenge against her father’s murderer after discovering the killer will participate in the Heroic Games.

Players can experience each hero’s story separately, with progress saved across different paths. This allows multiple narratives to develop alongside each other while revealing new details about the world and its characters.

Strategic Combat Returns With New Classes, Weapons and Abilities

Like previous Fire Emblem games, Fortune’s Weave focuses heavily on tactical combat where battlefield positioning, unit selection, and preparation determine victory. Players must carefully place their forces, manage movement ranges, exploit terrain advantages, and understand enemy weaknesses before every battle.

The game introduces a wide variety of classes that influence each unit’s abilities, weapons, and movement options. Beginner Classes include foundational roles such as gladiators, diviners, and ornius riders. Specialty Classes expand tactical possibilities with units like armored knights, wing soldiers, and charioteers, while Advanced Classes include powerful warriors such as cataphracts, guardians, and elephant riders.

Combat also features multiple weapon types, including swords, axes, bows, spears, magic, and unique weapons with special effects. Players will need to consider enemy defenses and attack ranges, as some weapons are designed specifically to counter certain opponents.

New combat mechanics include Combat Arts, powerful attacks that consume weapon durability, and Blaze Arts, special abilities that use a hero’s health to unleash devastating effects. Cai can create a massive flame attack, Dietrich can teleport across the battlefield using his dark cloak, and Leda can support allies with musical abilities while summoning powerful creatures.

Fortuna’s Blessing Adds a New Way to Control Battles

One of the major gameplay features in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is Fortuna’s Blessing, which allows players to rewind time after every move. This mechanic gives players the opportunity to rethink strategies, correct mistakes, and prevent unexpected losses during difficult battles.

Outside combat, players will explore the capital city of Dagsion, where they can prepare their forces before entering matches. The city offers multiple activities, including shopping for weapons, earning blessings at temples, completing quests, recruiting new warriors, and improving characters through training.

Players can also travel beyond Dagsion to explore the world map, discover dungeons, gather materials, and participate in additional battles. Each hero has unique abilities while exploring, creating different approaches depending on the chosen character.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, 2026. Pre-orders are currently available through Nintendo eShop, while a special Dagdan Collection featuring a steel game case, character art cards, a Dagda map, and an artbook will release alongside the game.

Nintendo has also confirmed that selected tracks from the game, including its main theme, will be added to the Nintendo Music service. A new Fire Emblem theme will also arrive on the Nintendo Today! smart device app ahead of launch.
