Game Freak and publisher Fictions have released a new Combat Overview trailer for Beast of Reincarnation, offering the most detailed look yet at the action RPG’s battle system ahead of its August 4 launch. The latest video focuses on the game’s fast-paced combat mechanics, emphasizing strategy rather than simple button-mashing as players battle powerful enemies in a post-apocalyptic world.
The new gameplay overview was released through the game’s official channels, showcasing protagonist Emma and her canine companion Koo as they combine melee attacks, parries, and special abilities to overcome increasingly difficult foes.
New gameplay highlights tactical combat and character progression
The Combat Overview trailer reveals that players will need to balance attacking, parrying, and powerful special attacks throughout every encounter. Successfully defeating bosses unlocks additional combat techniques, giving players access to a growing range of skills and playstyles as Emma’s journey progresses.
One of the game’s defining mechanics is Koo’s support abilities. As Emma lands successful parries, Koo builds points that can be spent on powerful Blooming Arts, allowing players to interrupt enemies, launch devastating attacks, or create openings during combat. These abilities can also be customized with modifiers, encouraging different combat builds throughout the adventure.
Early hands-on impressions from Gamerant and preview coverage have also compared the game’s defensive mechanics to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, while noting that Koo’s tactical abilities help distinguish Beast of Reincarnation from other action RPGs.

Game Freak takes on its most ambitious action RPG yet
Set thousands of years after humanity’s collapse, Beast of Reincarnation follows Emma, one of the few humans capable of absorbing the mysterious Blight, alongside Koo as they search for the legendary Beast of Reincarnation.
Beyond combat, previews suggest players can expect interconnected exploration, traversal abilities, stealth mechanics, and multiple ways to approach encounters.
While Game Freak is best known for developing the Pokémon series, early impressions indicate that Beast of Reincarnation represents one of the studio’s most ambitious original projects to date.
The game launches on August 4, with the newly released Combat Overview providing the clearest look yet at the strategic gameplay awaiting players.
