Fans of “Shrinking” have a lot to celebrate. The second season is now available on Apple TV+. Plus, we know that the third season is confirmed after the streamer renewed the show.
In an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub at New York Comic Con 2024, the cast and crew shared exciting news about when they will start making the next season.
The panel featured Jason Segel, Brett Goldstein, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie, Ted McGinley, and Lukita Maxwell.
Goldstein, who co-created the series, said they have been writing Season 3 for several months. He felt relieved that their work wasn’t wasted.
“We’ve been writing it for the last three months, so the fact that the announcement came, it was like, ‘Well, thank f*ck we haven’t been wasting all that time,’” he said.
When asked about the start date for production, Goldstein confirmed, “I believe we will start filming sometime in January [2025].”
Jason Segel, who plays Jimmy, the therapist who is dealing with grief, mentioned that he does not want to limit the series to just five seasons.
What Is ‘Shrinking’ About?
“Shrinking” started on Apple TV+ in early 2023 and quickly gained popularity. The show mixes humor with themes of grief, mental health, and how these issues affect our relationships.
It focuses on Segel’s character, Jimmy, a therapist who begins to cross ethical lines by sharing his honest thoughts with his clients. The series also stars Harrison Ford as Jimmy’s boss and fellow therapist.
Collider’s Garrett Blaney reviewed the second season. He praised its ability to make people laugh while also helping them reflect on their own feelings about sadness and grief. He also praised Goldstein’s addition to the main cast.
Brett Goldstein joins Season 2 as a crucial character. While viewers might recognize his tough persona from Ted Lasso’s Roy Kent, Goldstein brings a gentler touch to his new role.
This immediately sets his character apart from the footballer that made him famous (and he no longer has the iconic beard).
“Shrinking” succeeds when it wraps the audience in a metaphorical trauma blanket. It reminds us that everyone faces similar challenges and sometimes we cannot handle them alone.
All these elements combine to make it one of the best shows on TV. However, like its characters, it has its imperfections.
“Shrinking” continues to resonate with audiences as it navigates the complexities of grief and mental health through humor and heartfelt storytelling.
With Season 2 now available on Apple TV+ and the confirmation of Season 3 production beginning in January 2025, fans have much to look forward to.
The addition of Brett Goldstein brings a fresh dynamic to the cast, enhancing the show’s depth. As the series shows the struggles we all face, it remains a compelling watch that encourages viewers to reflect on their own lives.
