Denis Villeneuve’s work with the Dune franchise has made it one of the most popular sci-fi series ever. Now, he will pass part of the franchise to someone else.

BO is expanding the story of Arrakis with a new show called Dune: Prophecy. This spin-off series is set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet). It will premiere on Max next month.

Unlike some recent shows like Reacher, which announced its fourth season before the third season aired, there has been no announcement about a second season for Dune: Prophecy.

During a recent interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub at New York Comic-Con, the stars, producers, and showrunner of Dune: Prophecy discussed plans beyond Season 1.

“We do have a plan and they’ve been eager to hear all of it,” said showrunner Alison Schapker.

Executive Producer Jordan Goldberg mentioned, “They want it character-driven, they want it thought-provoking, and they just asked us to constantly make it surprising, propulsive, and visually breathtaking.

When you say the word Dune, Dune requires large-scale filmmaking. HBO Max, Legendary, they never told us to pull back. They always told us to push and make it epic, and that’s what we did.”

Star Olivia Williams added, “They also say they haven’t destroyed the set in Hungary, so that’s always a good sign.”

While it does not sound like anything is confirmed for a second season of Dune: Prophecy, it seems that Warner Bros. and Legendary are open to the idea.

They are willing to continue with the show, making multiple seasons a possibility. The timeline of the show allows for many stories to be told before it connects with Dune: Part One.

This gives the series a chance to show different narratives without being limited to a fixed time frame like some Star Wars projects.

Dune: Prophecy is a big gamble. The first two Dune films are very popular and are known for their high-quality sci-fi entertainment. Fans expect the same quality from this show. If it does not meet these expectations, it could harm the Dune brand, but taking this risk may be worth it.

Who Stars in ‘Dune: Prophecy’?

Dune: Prophecy features a new cast for this chapter of Arrakis. Emily Watson and Olivia Williams play Valya and Tula Harkonnen. Mark Strong takes on the role of Emperor Javicco Corrino, replacing John Turturro as Carmine Falcone in The Penguin.

Josh Heuston, known for Heartbreak High, will play Constatine Corrino. Travis Fimmel will play Desmond Hart, and Jodhi May will portray Empress Natalya.

The series takes place 10,000 years before the Dune movies and shows the rise of the Bene Gesserit across the galaxy.

Dune: Prophecy offers an exciting opportunity to show the rich history of Arrakis. With a fresh cast and a commitment to high-quality storytelling, the series aims to captivate fans of the franchise.

As anticipation builds, viewers look forward to seeing how this new chapter unfolds next month on Max.

Dune: Prophecy has only been confirmed for one season. Keep an eye on Otakukart for more news from New York Comic-Con and watch Dune: Prophecy on Max next month.
