The director of Before Sunrise fame brings to the audience a very articulately presented picture of the average life of American youth, especially in their college days.
An American sports classic, it imparts a lesson about moving through the hardships of life while embracing the passions of the youth. It is a film about a young freshman athlete Jake Bradford (Blake Jenner), who meets his new unruly teammates (Glen Powell and Ryan Guzman) and embarks on a journey of disco dancing, chasing women, and managing the freedom and obligations of life as an adult.
We are introduced to the characters of Billy ‘Beuter’ Autrey (Will Brittain) and Beverly (Zoey Deutch), the roommate and the love interest of our all-state pitcher.

Weimar, Texas
The majority of the filming of the film took place in the Strickland Field of Weimar City, with some contributions to the set via San Marcos, Bastrop, and Elgin, all in Texas. The vast expanse shots of the university where the characters of the assembled cast studies are filmed in the Texas State University in San Marcos with the cruising cars and elegant buildings.
We get a glimpse of East Austin in the scene where we see a sea of students load and unload their cars as they move to the offsite housing (Cherrywood neighborhood). But that’s not it for Austin and its beautiful nooks that are often borrowed in movie scenes.
The quaint swimming hole moment between Jake and Beverly, as they float in the water with the sun going down, was shot in the Blue Hole of the Regional Park of Austin.
The Oz party was housed in the city of Taylor, which also lent its landscapes to other films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Boyhood. The magnificent Richland Hall of the Cameron Road Manor offered the floor for the dance hall scene in the first half of the movie.
Taking a little piece here and there from the wide variety of locations available in Texas, Everybody Wants Some enriches the viewer’s experience of authentic Texas college life by rolling out real-life sets. Over the short period of three days that the film takes place, we see it all, from hunky discos to somber Flower Halls of the Texas State University, where Jake and Beverly kiss.
