Nintendo Switch 2 players will soon be able to experience Elden Ring for the first time. Bandai Namco has confirmed that Elden Ring Tarnished Edition will launch for Nintendo’s latest console on August 28, 2026, bringing the base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, and additional exclusive content in one package.
The Switch 2 release marks the first time FromSoftware’s award-winning action RPG will appear on a Nintendo platform. The physical edition will cost $79.99 and will be released as a Game-Key Card, meaning the cartridge functions as a digital license and requires players to download the full game.
Switch 2 Edition Includes New Classes and Customization Options
According to Bandai Namco, Elden Ring Tarnished Edition includes the complete original game alongside the highly praised Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. The package also introduces new customization options, including additional armor sets and new appearances for Torrent, the player’s spectral mount.
The special edition will add two new starting classes designed around different playstyles. The Heavy Knight focuses on strength-based combat with heavy armor, while the Idus Knight offers a more agile approach built around speed and defensive abilities.
Players will also receive new armor sets and multiple Torrent skins, giving returning fans additional ways to customize their characters in the Lands Between.

Players who already own Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC will not need to purchase the entire Tarnished Edition. Instead, FromSoftware will release the new additions as a separate Tarnished Pack on the same day.
The additional content will include the new classes, equipment, and mount customization features for existing versions of the game.
The Switch 2 version was originally announced during Nintendo’s 2025 Switch 2 Direct with an expected release window before being delayed. FromSoftware explained that extra development time was needed to improve performance.
The studio stated:
“While development on #ELDENRING Tarnished Edition continues wholeheartedly toward release, we have decided to move the launch to 2026 to allow time for performance adjustments.”
The delay followed concerns from early demonstrations, where players reported technical issues during hands-on previews. Later testing suggested that the additional development period helped improve the experience.
Originally released in 2022, Elden Ring became one of FromSoftware’s biggest successes, earning hundreds of Game of the Year nominations and selling more than 30 million copies worldwide. With the Tarnished Edition, Nintendo players will finally be able to explore the Lands Between when it arrives on Switch 2 this August.
