Seeing how Gas has the upper hand, Monaito advises Bardock to flee before it’s too late. However, the proud Saiyan refuses to take such a cowardly proposal and continues to fight Gas. He casually blocks Gas’ hammer-like weapon and throws him in the air. Before he can proceed any further, Bardock gets caught up in Gas’ aura. We initially saw this as the decisive attack, but Monaito summons the eternal dragon as the last ray of hope.
However, stubborn Bardock refuses to rely on the Dragon’s wish. He is quite confident about overpowering him with his own strength. Instead, he wishes for his son’s survival, and now we know Goku has managed to cheat death so many times. Probably Bardock’s selfless wish has something to do with it. Gas keeps growing with each powerup, and soon he completely goes out of control. He severs Bardock’s tail like a twig and throws him flying in the air. Just as he was about to land the finishing blow, Monaito intervenes and gets stabbed in his shoulder.
Moved by this sacrifice, Bardock surpasses his limits yet again and finishes Gas with a Ki blast. It seems that Gas wasn’t aware of Saiyan’s exponential growth rate with each battle.
