Bandai Namco Entertainment has officially revealed new details for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO’s Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC, confirming that the expansion will launch on July 30, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Alongside the paid DLC, every player will also receive a substantial free update introducing new battle mechanics and additional stage variations.

The announcement was accompanied by a new producer video featuring Jun Furutani, who offered the most comprehensive look yet at the expansion’s content. The DLC significantly expands the arena fighter with 33 new playable characters, an entirely new solo progression mode, fresh story content, and multiple battle arenas. The update builds on the game’s already extensive roster, which spans Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball GT, giving fans even more iconic fighters to master.

Limit Breaker Journey introduces a new roguelike-inspired progression mode

The headline feature of the Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC is Limit Breaker Journey, a brand-new solo mode that lets players strengthen their favorite character through repeated runs. Instead of following a linear campaign, players travel across a world map, selecting battles and events that gradually improve their chosen fighter.

In the producer video, Jun Furutani explained that the mode focuses on building a character that matches each player’s preferred fighting style. During each run, movement consumes stamina, reducing a character’s starting health before entering battles and forcing players to balance exploration with survival.

Enemy difficulty is represented by SP, with stronger opponents rewarding more experience points. Along the way, players can encounter special events, recruit familiar Dragon Ball characters, equip stat-enhancing Battle Art, and participate in training sessions for additional EXP. As SP increases, players earn upgrade points that can be invested across six different character attributes.

One of the biggest additions is that fighters enhanced in Limit Breaker Journey can carry their improved statistics into Player Matches and Offline Battles, adding long-term progression beyond the solo mode itself.

Beyond the new progression system, the DLC dramatically increases the game’s playable lineup with 33 additional characters representing multiple generations of the Dragon Ball franchise.

Players will also receive four new Episode Battles, allowing them to experience additional story scenarios, along with several Extra Battles designed to provide fresh combat challenges outside the main campaign.

The expansion also introduces four entirely new battle stages, giving players more environments for the series’ signature large-scale, high-speed battles.

Free update adds Sparking! Boost and Chain Blast mechanics

Launching alongside the DLC is a free gameplay update available to all Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO players.

The update introduces Sparking! Boost, a high-risk mechanic that consumes additional Skill Stock to dramatically increase offensive power while in Sparking! mode. Once the temporary boost expires, players will experience reduced combat statistics, encouraging strategic timing rather than constant use.

Another new mechanic, Chain Blast, allows players to extend combos after launching an opponent by tagging in a reserve teammate and continuing the assault with a devastating Blast attack. The free update also includes three new variations of existing battle stages, further expanding the game’s arena selection even for players who do not purchase the DLC.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO continues the legacy of the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series with destructible environments, fast-paced arena combat, and one of the largest playable rosters in franchise history. With the Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC arriving on July 30, Bandai Namco is delivering one of the game’s biggest content drops since launch.
