Drag Race Philippines: Untucked Episode 8 Recap
Eva (Le Queen) receives P20,000 and a mini-challenge for the least embarrassing read.
Then, host Paolo Ballesteros reveals the week’s maxi-challenge, which requires the queens to transform their loved ones into drag versions of themselves.
Eva reunites with her best buddy Marvin, while Marina Summers is joined by her younger sister Mariel. When Paolo calls out to John Paul, who turns out to be a gay cousin Brigiding grew up with, Brigiding is a little taken aback. Minty doesn’t appear particularly happy when her sister Rizza enters the room; she appears to be dissatisfied.
She exits the set, appearing to be about to have a panic attack. Xilhouete Minty asks her what’s wrong. Given that this show was filmed at the height of the COVID-19 outbreak, Minty is concerned that her sister’s presence and her family’s exposure to it put their health at risk.
When asked about their childhood dress-up experiences, Marina and her sister Marites Summers, who goes by the drag name Marites Su, Brigiding and her drag persona cousin Tigiding discuss their shared experience of growing up queer, and Eva emphasizes the value of her drag persona BFF Luna.
Xilhouete and Xhadow refer to one another as “Pika,” which is short for Pikachu. The judges—mainstays Kaladkaren and Jiggly Caliente, returning judge Rajo Laurel, and extra-special guest judge Patrick Starr—are introduced as Mamwa Pao enters the main stage wearing golden corset-like armor.
In the opening act of their party girl skit, Eva and Luna begin the runway show wearing thigh-high boots. With some sort of interpretive dance, Xilhouete and Xhadow make their entrance. Furthermore, they both have the long, smooth black hair that is Xilhouete’s signature.
Tigiding appears in a caftan and turban in the same print as Brigiding, sporting a printed baby doll dress and pigtails.
Short mint ruffled dresses blend well with Berry Fresh and Minty. The Preciouses enter the room sporting enormous hair, bright blue outfits, and silver accessories, making them look like disco queens. Precious Paula appears to bring Precious Chona out of her shell during their brief dance.
The judges determine who is at the top and bottom after the evaluations. The top three are Eva, Xilhouete, and Precious, but Xilhouete ultimately prevails, earning her second RuBadge and an additional P80,000. Brigiding, Minty, and Marina finish in the bottom two.
Still, Marina is able to advance, leaving Minty and Brigiding to lipsync for their lives for the second time in this competition.
There are still five queens competing. If the show follows RuPaul’s Drag Race’s formula, we are one elimination away from the last four, who will compete in a lipsync spectacular in the finale.
