With the sequel announced, Universal Studios and Blumhouse have now added Demián Bichir, known for his work in horror films like The Nun, to the cast.
Deadline reports that Bichir will be part of The Black Phone 2, but we do not know yet what his character will be like. Bichir has a strong background in horror, including roles in Alien: Covenant and The Grudge.
His recent film, Without Blood, directed by Angelina Jolie, had its world premiere at TIFF. The Black Phone 2 was originally set to release in June 2025 but has now been moved to October 17, 2025.
The Black Phone, directed by Scott Derrickson and co-written by C. Robert Cargill, surprised many when it was released in 2022. Despite a small budget, the movie was a huge success, earning over $161 million worldwide and becoming one of the most profitable films of that year.
The sequel is expected to bring back the original cast, including Ethan Hawke as The Grabber, and other actors like Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora.
What Is ‘The Black Phone’ About?
The Black Phone is based on a story by Joe Hill and produced by Blumhouse’s Jason Blum. It tells the story of a 13-year-old boy named Finney and his younger sister, Gwen, who has strong psychic abilities. Their town is plagued by child abductions and murders.
Finney becomes a target of The Grabber and is kidnapped. While locked in a basement, Gwen tries to use her psychic powers to find her brother. Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of The Grabber’s past victims through a disconnected phone in the basement, and these voices help him try to escape.
