Deepa & Anoop, a CG-animated Netflix series, will prove to the industry that toys and consumer goods are not prerequisites for the kind of content Mattel Television creates. The music-focused series, which is created by Lisa Goldman, Munjal Shroff, and Heather Kenyon, is the first on Mattel TV that isn’t connected to a pre-existing Mattel product. The show focuses on Deepa and Anoop’s adventures and how they come up with creative solutions for even the most basic issues. We’ll also see how they handle visitors at the bed and breakfast run by her family.
The show’s trailer shows the inevitable sham that happens when Deepa tries to make the “gooiest mixture the world has ever seen” while promising kids episodes packed with “music, mirth, and fun.” The Deepa & Anoop has received a parental rating of TV-Y. Shows with a TV-Y content classification are suitable for kids of all ages. In terms of content, TV-Y and G have approximately equal ratings. So now parents don’t need to worry about anything.

Makers On The Show
Fred Soulie, Executive Vice President & General Manager at Mattel Television, said: “While Mattel is well-known for creating entertainment material based on our fan-favorite brands, we’re pleased to join with Netflix to provide audiences a touching, all-new series based on original IP.” “Fans will be thrilled later this summer when Deepa and her closest friend Anoop take on thrilling challenges and navigate vibrant musical pieces that emphasize the value of friendship. The duo Deepa & Anoop will undoubtedly have an influence on audiences everywhere”.
Christopher Keenan, Senior VP of Creative at Mattel Television, said that they have been fortunate to work alongside best-in-class consultants and advisors during every phase of Deepa & Anoop’s development. And that they believe that this endearing series will appeal to young audiences all over the world who will find it relatable and authentic.
Shows Journey
Four years ago, Keenan first came across Deepa & Anoop and was attracted to its real characters and adorable design. According to Soulie, who joined in 2018 after the concept was bought, “it often takes a significant amount of time to pick a series, but with Deepa, it happened really fast.” The company was producing a ton of genuinely original and local content at the time, and it fit what they were doing perfectly. In the end, Netflix decided to stream the show in October. According to Soulie, the streamer was an obvious choice due to its dedication to diverse content and global expansion.
Once the show was in production, Mattel TV continued to promote diversity by using voice actors of Indian heritage. According to Soulie, “We think it’s important to promote diversity on screen and behind the scenes.” There are also some lavish musical performances performed in the Bollywood style among the 18 original songs in the show. It has not yet been decided whether any episodes or clips from the series will debut on YouTube prior to the show’s major platform debut in considerations of promotion and discoverability, but Soulie is open to the idea of increasing people’s interest in Deepa & Anoop. Mattel TV intends to keep up its original storytelling strategy later this year by introducing more animated and live-action projects that are not based on Mattel IPs, although Soulie declined to provide specifics at this time.
