Someone is getting fired at CD Projekt Red because Cyberpunk 2077 DLC leaks were exposed in a text file. And that text file got shared over and over all over the web. Consequentially, the snowball effect was inevitable, so we’re here to talk about them. If you don’t feel like spoiling the fun, go right ahead and skip this article. But be warned, the memes will eventually get to you. So why not learn about it here?
Cyberpunk 2077 was the most expected game two years ago. It had a massive hype. But it all came crashing down when CD Projekt Red dropped the game with massive bugs. But, next-generation versions came along and put the game back on track. I personally lived through bug hell. And I haven’t played the next-gen versions —yet. But let’s focus on the leaks. Let’s see what this is all about.
Cyberpunk 2077 DLC Leaks Exposed
The published files, which have now been deleted from illegal downloading sites via DMCA requests, have received a lot of attention on sites like Reddit. Although the conversation files allegedly stored some template text, the expansion’s story details could also be gleaned. If you want to prevent possible spoilers for the expansion’s setting, length, and one of its characters, don’t read on.
The expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 will apparently take place primarily in the Combat Zone, an area of Night City’s Pacifica region that is inaccessible in the main game. The Combat Zone is exactly what it sounds like: a lawless area of Night City where desperate people can fight and kill with impunity. The expansion will also give players access to the Sports Dome, a visible but inaccessible arena in the main game, and will reportedly center on a character named Songbird. Dataminers previously discovered Songbird’s head mesh and face cyberware within Cyberpunk 2077. Players speculated that she was either a DLC character or a cute character. According to the files, there are seven main quests with dialogue, as well as hints of new world encounters and fixer quests.
Cyberpunk 2077 DLC 2077 Leaks Further Explained
The big news is that many of the new story missions (at least seven, according to the leak) appear to take place in Night City’s Pacifica zone, allowing players to explore previously unreachable areas like the Sports Dome. Pacifica, the home of refugees in the aftermath of Haiti’s destruction due to global warming, is run by the Voodoo Boys, a netrunner gang that uses its strength to squeeze out life and religious presence outside the iron grip of Cyberpunk 2077’s corporations and corrupt government agencies.
It’s drenched in sunlight and brimming with color, and it stands in stark contrast to the darker, more traditional neon-filled streets of central Night City. To put it simply, it’s one of the stronger aspects of the overall game, and it’s ripe for expansion. At the heart of these new missions appears to be a new character named Songbird, as well as a new area of Pacifica called the Combat Zone. I hope it’s more creative than it sounds.
Other noteworthy details from the apparent leak include the fact that it occurs prior to the game’s conclusion and will factor into revised endings. I guess it depends on how you play. It also appears that Keanu Reeves’ character, Johnny Silverhand, will have little to no role in it, which isn’t surprising given the casting challenges and costs of getting new voice work from an A-list talent years after development.
DMCA-Worthy!
A DMCA copyright strike by a group called Group-IB Digital Risk Protection, which helps companies protect against IP leaks, took down at least one re-upload of the files, but you can still view a video clip from someone browsing the folder names for the alleged main program leak on Streamable.
Following the tumultuous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and a year-long saga of updates to fix bugs and address the game’s lackluster console versions, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions were released earlier this year. With the release of update 1.5, which overhauled aspects of the open world, side quests, and skill trees, CDPR signaled that it was beginning to shift its focus to other projects, including The Witcher 4, which recently entered pre-production.
