CMA Country Christmas 2021 Recap
2021, The musical spectacle, which has become an annual tradition for millions of TV viewers, is a feast for both the ears and the eyes, with an all-star ensemble dressed in holiday finery performing seasonal favorites and new pieces ranging from cheerful to sublime.
Last year’s hour-long show featured nine performances by Carrie Underwood, Lady A, Brett Eldredge, and the Pistol Annies, among others. Carly Pearce, who was recently voted CMA female artist of the year, and Gabby Barrett, who was recently named American Music Award for the favorite female country singer, bring a delightful big sis-little sis chemistry to the festivities as first-time hosts.
The Pistol Annies’ Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley kick off the special with “Snow Globe,” one of eleven songs co-written by them for their upcoming Christmas album, Hell of a Holiday. It’s one of three famous 1960s-era performances (which by now seems as holiday tradition as the Crosby-Sinatra era). Jimmie Allen, Louis York, and the Shindellas re-create a Motown flavor with a cheerful “What Does Christmas Mean?” for a 2021 release composed by Allen and York. Pearce and Barrett also sing a duet of “Sleigh Ride” that is similar to the Ronettes’ famous 1963 version.
Pearce and Barrett each give solo performances of traditional Christmas songs. In a stunning crimson strapless gown and opera gloves, Pearce lends grandeur to “O Holy Night.” Barrett performs a sorrowful “Silent Night” while clad in a gorgeous white pantsuit and backed on guitar by hubby Cade Foehner. Barrett seemed to like white, as she wore it to the ACM Awards in 2021, the CMA Summer Jam in September, and the CMA Awards earlier this month.
CMA Country Christmas host 2022
Carly Pearce will host the CMA Country Christmas special. Pearce is hosting the show as a lone host for the first time, but she previously sang “O Holy Night” on the 2021 edition. Pearce was named CMA Female Vocalist of the Year in 2021 for her songs “Every Little Thing” and “What He Didn’t Do.”
