Aleeza Chanowitz’s Israeli series, Chanshi will soon air a new episode this week. Revolving around the titular character, Chanshi takes us on the journey of the 21-year-old woman from her home in Brooklyn to a completely new life in Israel.
The show was first seen on December 8th, 2022, and had been ordered for around 10 episodes. The story is filled with themes of how American immigrants usually feel coming to Israel and trying to live there. Aleeza is both the creator and main character of the show. The character she plays is a free-minded yet orthodox Jewish woman who wishes to move away from the eyes of her parents and try to follow her dreams by moving to a new place.
Aleeza says in an interview that the show is inspired by her own life as an immigrant, and how the Israel she landed in was completely different from the one she had expected. After having her first intimate relationship, Aleeza felt the guilt that comes due to culture and her religion, which was not talked about much and made her feel alone.
Israel was chosen as the place she would go as it was somewhere she wasn’t entirely new to, and she could practice her religion as much as she wanted without feeling restricted. While exploring American-Israeli differences, Chanshi will also be focusing on topics such as the LGBTQIA+ community, Sexuality, and independence.
Chashi is produced by Kastina Communications and has a diverse cast filled with both Israeli and American-born members. The filming of the show has mostly been done in Israel.

Chanshi Episode 9: Recap
Chanshi has a single goal, to try and form as many intimate relationships as she can with Israeli soldiers. After coming and settling into the Olim community, Chanshi attends her best friend, Noki’s wedding. Olim is a group of American Israelis who form a bond due to their similarities. At the friend’s wedding, she sees that although Noki is more open-minded than others, she still complies with the religion and lives according to the expectations of the elders.
This makes Chanshi infuriated and she decides to live her life without ever becoming just a walking Uterus. The sole purpose of her shifting to the country was to escape the pressure of the values that had been put on her through culture, religion, as well as family. Once Chanshi finds her little community, she mixes in seamlessly and finds it much easier to live in Israel. This turns out to be good for the other members of the community as well, as due to Chanshi’s extroverted nature, they start to come out of their shells freely.
Over the last few episodes, we’ve seen Chanshi trying to find someone suitable to spend the night with. She forces herself into the life of one of the men. As each day passes in the unfamiliar land, she starts to realize the true meaning behind freedom and growth.
