Chainsaw Man Part Two has taken an unconventional path since it began in July 2022. Surprisingly, Chainsaw Man himself was absent from the story’s first few chapters, while a new main protagonist took center stage. There’s also less focus on fighting compared to Part One, with more emphasis on the characters’ everyday lives and their interactions.
In the latest chapter, #173, titled “Hard of Hearing,” Part Two makes a significant narrative choice by confirming that Chainsaw Man’s most mysterious and terrifying power can be reversed. When “Armored Chainsaw Man” first appeared in chapter #83, this powerful “Hero of Hell” easily defeated any devil that stood in his way, even taking on multiple Hybrids at once.
Makima, after only a brief fight, realized that he was unstoppable. However, recent events in Chainsaw Man suggest that this might no longer be true.
Chainsaw Man’s Most Shocking Twist: The Power to Erase—and Restore—Concepts from Existence
The most shocking twist in Chainsaw Man occurred when Makima revealed that Chainsaw Man has the ability to erase entire concepts from existence by consuming the devils that represent them. This power had remained a mystery, as it was never fully demonstrated, leaving fans with more questions than answers about how it worked.
But when the Ear Devil was erased by Chainsaw Man in chapter #172, the sudden disappearance of ears within the series showcased the terrifying reality of this ability.
In just one chapter, Chainsaw Man reveals that his ability to erase devils and the concepts they represent can actually be undone. This revelation not only challenges the idea of Chainsaw Man as an unbeatable force but also opens the door to significant consequences for the story.
Armored Chainsaw Man Restores the Ear Devil, Hinting at a Major Shift
After being caught by Yoshida’s octopus, Armored Chainsaw Man regurgitates the Ear Devil, instantly restoring everyone’s ears. This is the first time in the series that such a reversal happens, and though it might seem minor, it could drastically change the course of the series.
In the latest chapter, Armored Chainsaw Man appears much weaker than the destructive force he was in Part One. Not only is he injured by what seem to be weaker devils, but he is also easily captured by Yoshida’s octopus before vomiting up the Ear Devil.
Seeing this, and considering that their plan worked perfectly, it’s likely that Public Safety will continue trying to retrieve other devils that Pochita has consumed. This could lead to serious problems.
Chainsaw Man Faces Uncertain Future as Public Safety’s Plan to Retrieve Erased Devils Risks Unleashing New Horrors
Aside from a few concepts mentioned by Makima in Part One, we don’t really know what Pochita has eaten. If Public Safety succeeds in making Chainsaw Man regurgitate more devils, they could accidentally unleash horrors that humanity is not ready to deal with.
While retrieving concepts like Yoru’s nuclear weapons might help in a battle against the Death Devil, other devils could pose a new threat.
If Public Safety’s plan goes as they intend and Chainsaw Man and Yoru become stronger by regaining previously erased devils, it’s not certain that they will join forces against Death. Chainsaw Man is unpredictable and uncontrollable when powered up, and Yoru has her own plans with her nuclear weapons.
One possibility is that by forcing Chainsaw Man to expel devils, Fami might gain control over them, especially since Asa and Yoru are already hungry. Whatever Public Safety’s ultimate goal is, recent events suggest that Chainsaw Man is heading into uncharted territory in the chapters to come.
