The story of the film begins on the Christmas of 1952. We see Therese Belivet in the lead role, who is working at a department store in Manhattan. She aspires to be a famous photographer one day. At her store, she comes across a very glamorous woman, probably belonging to the elite class of the City. She is looking for a doll for her daughter. Therese advises her against giving her daughter a doll and instead recommends buying a train which she does. When Carol has already left, Therese sees that she has left her glove on the counter. She mails her about the piece of clothing under her store’s name.
Later in the film, we see that Therese is with a man named Richard, who is sweet and caring and even wants to marry her. For the same reason, he is asking her to go to France with him. Although, she is not sure about their relationship and is hesitant to agree and make the trip. Dannie is a friend of Therese, and he invites her to his workplace at The New York Times and introduces her to a photo editor. All this while, Carol is not okay in her life as well as her divorce proceedings. Nevertheless, she thanked the store’s staff, who returned her glove and asks Therese out for lunch.

Cate Blanchett reprises the role of Carol Aird. She is the lead in the film and her love interest of Therese. Sarah Paulson does the role of Abby. Abby is the former lover of Carol, with whom he was caught in an affair with. Nobody actually needs an introduction to Sarah. She is a very famous American actress. She has been a part of various successful projects till now, such as Blue Jay and Run. Sarah is currently living in Los Angeles. Sarah Paulson is currently in a relationship with actress Holland Taylor. Holland is 32 years older than Sarah.
Jake Lacy reprises the role of Richard Semco. He is their boyfriend of Therese, who wants to marry her desperately. He has become quite popular after being a part of the film. He has previously been spotted on the I’m Dying Up Here series on Showtime, among other successful projects.
