Carnival Row is an Amazon Prime-released fantasy crime series created by Rene Echevarria and Travis Beacham. The series is based on a novel written by Travis Beacham named A Killing On Carnival Row. The series is made under the direction of Jon Ameil, and the astounding cinematography for the series is done by Theo Van De Sande.
The series is full of mysteries and receives loads of love from the audience.
The series has two seasons, with the first one premiering on August 30, 2019. Amazon renewed the show for a second season, which aired on February 17, 2023. The series is produced by Gideon Amir under the production company Siesta Productions in partnership with Legendary Television Amazon Studios. There are 18 episodes in total, with a run time of 50-67 minutes per episode. The filming location for the series is revealed to be the Czech Republic.

The recurring cast includes Alice Krige as Aoife, who plays a witch, Tracey Wilkinson as Afissa, in the role of a housemaid, Ryan Hayeas in the role of Constable Thatch, Chloe Pirrie as Dahlia, in the role of Black Raven, Jim High as Fergus, in the role of human servant.

Carnival Row: Ending Explained
The plot for the series revolves around immigrant mythical creatures who’ve fled their home country for the duration of the war. There is tension simmering between the citizens of Burgue and the immigrants. There is a fight for survival, madness for power, and unresolved love. There is a string of unresolved murders in the city of Burgue, which is being investigated by Rycroft.
The series begins with Vignette Stonemoss escaping Pact soldiers onto a ship from fae land after trying to save her friend from the beast. Rycroft has a shady past as he had an affair with a fae, who’re the immigrants in Burgue. Vignette believes her love has died during the war, but upon her arrival at Burgue, she learns about Rycroft being alive and well.
The show starts in a dark forest in the lands of Faes, where we witness Faes’ fleeing for their lives to escape from the clutches of the Pact. The first season introduces the history of the Faes and the Burgue. The next day Philo learns about another crime that involves Aisling, a fae being brutally murdered. Imogen discovers her neighbor Agreus is a wealthy ship jack.
The backstory of Philo has revealed to the audience learns about him being half-fae and half-human. They spend a night together before the Fae land is attacked by the Burgish soldiers. During the attack by the Pact, Philo escapes and lets Vignette believe he is dead.
Breakspear is brutally murdered by Piety, who uses his liver for a magical ritual. Piety also released Vignette from prison. The main villain of the series gets revealed to be Sophie Longerbane, half-sister of Jonah and inheritor of her dad’s estate after his death. Sophie, with her brother, embarks on a new mission that will change the fate of Carnival Row forever.
The second season focuses on Vignette and Philo and their story. The town of Burgue is split between humans and the fae, with the humans not giving enough supplies to the fae. The faes are dying due to the shortage of supplies and sickness.
The conductor of the supply train is killed, and the humans believe Fae is behind the killing. Vignette and Philo are happy together, but their happiness doesn’t last for a long time. The vignette is burned with the Black Raven symbol, which reveals her to be a member of the group.
Does Philo Survive, Or Is It The End For His Character?
The last episode of the second season showed the chaos which threatened the Row, with Constable Thatch and his crew shouting to burn it. At the same time, Philo apologizes to Tourmaline for putting her in danger, as he is the one who asked her to lure the Sparas. Tourmaline attempts to ask Darius to leave, but he ignores her. Agreus is tied up by the New Dawn after he captures him.
Philo is knocked down and hanged. He is left to die. Philo starts having visions of Vignette, thus revealing to the audience that Philo still loves her even after her betrayal. He is saved just in time by the arrival of the police on time. Imogen is preparing for her speech in the parliament. It is also revealed that Major Vir is a Spara. His presence raises suspicion in Imogen’s mind.
Major Vir is a danger to everyone. Thatch and his partner start a massacre, and they start cutting the wings of Fae. Philo realizes the truth behind Major Vir being a Sparas, and he rushes to the parliament to warn others. Vir realizing the arrival of Philo, transforms and flies to capture Tourmaline. Vignette attempts to go after him, but she is held back by Kaine. Kaine shields Vignette from being shot and dies, protecting her. Vignette rushes to save Tourmaline.
During the fight against the Sparas Darius gets injured. Philo arrives and successfully kills the Sparas, but the group loses Darius as he succumbs to his injuries. Philo has been shown to have survived the shooting and is giving a speech in the parliament after a time jump.
He appears to become the first half-face chancellor in the row. Vignette confesses her love to Tourmaline, while Philo confesses his love to Vignette. Vignette and Tourmaline get married in a beautiful ceremony, while Agreus starts a campaign with Imogen. The happy couple returns to Carnival.
Philo crosses paths with Dombey, who is the new inspector. Before the end credit rolls, Philo catches up to Millworthy, who reveals he loved Philo’s mother. Philo also realizes the peace in Carnival Row is temporary, and new enemies may arise soon. Philo accepts Vignette’s love for Tourmaline and moves on with his life.
Is There Going To Be Season 3 Of Carnival Row?
The fans excited about the release of the third season of the show, are going to be disappointed, as Bloom has canceled the series. The main reason behind the cancellation of the show is revealed to be the difficulty faced in shooting during the pandemic. The season ended with a finale on March 17, 2023.
