Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is giving players an incentive to pre-order, with campaign early access confirmed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version. Activision and Infinity Ward announced that pre-order customers across platforms will be able to play the single-player campaign beginning October 16, 2026, one week before the game’s full release.
The news is particularly notable for Switch 2 owners, as the pre-order announcement applies across platforms and therefore includes Nintendo’s current-generation console.
Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Early Access Explained
Players who pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will gain access to the campaign on October 16, while the game’s main launch follows one week later. The campaign takes place against the backdrop of a large-scale North Korean invasion of the Korean Peninsula, with the story following South Korean soldiers fighting on the front lines alongside a separate mission involving Captain Price.
The campaign will take players across several locations, including Korea, New York, Paris and Mumbai. Activision describes the new story as a darker chapter for the Modern Warfare series, with escalating conflicts eventually bringing its long-running storylines toward a major turning point.

The announcement also provided a first look at “Losing Ground,” a campaign mission centered on a Korean military squad caught in the chaos of the invasion. The mission is expected to highlight the game’s emphasis on intense ground combat and large-scale warfare.
Beyond the campaign, Modern Warfare 4 will feature multiplayer with a focus on movement and player control, while its DMZ mode will send players behind enemy lines to complete objectives and extract valuable resources.
