Velan Studios has shared its pride in helping bring Star Fox to Nintendo Switch 2, marking a significant milestone for the developer as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. The studio worked with Nintendo on the new version of the classic space adventure after previously collaborating on Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit in 2020.

“Ten years, and what a way to mark the milestone,”

the studio said in its anniversary message. Velan also confirmed that it had opened a second studio in Toronto while working with Nintendo on the project. The developer added that it remains focused on expanding its capabilities and maintaining the curiosity that guided its work from the beginning.

Released for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25, 2026, Star Fox reimagines Star Fox 64 with significantly upgraded visuals, redesigned characters, detailed cinematic sequences, fully voiced dialogue, and an orchestral soundtrack. Nintendo outlined these features in its official announcement.

Players once again control Fox McCloud as he and the Star Fox team attempt to stop Andross from taking over the Lylat System. Piloting the Arwing, players can perform aerial maneuvers, discover alternate routes, and revisit missions with different challenges.

The remake also introduces modern ways to play, including optional mouse-style aiming with Joy-Con 2 controllers and GameChat features. Its four-versus-four Battle Mode adds multiplayer dogfights, giving players another way to experience the franchise beyond its campaign.

Nintendo has continued expanding the game after launch. According to its September 2026 update notes, version 1.2.0 added three Battle Mode stages, new battle items, and support for up to four players in local split-screen matches.

Velan Studios’ message highlights the significance of the project during its tenth anniversary. Its collaboration with Nintendo has given the team an opportunity to contribute to one of gaming’s established franchises while continuing to grow as a developer.
