Bad Boys 4 marks a return to the commercial spotlight for Will Smith, reminiscent of his acclaimed performance at the 2022 Oscars, overshadowed by the infamous incident where he slapped Chris Rock.
Despite the attention on the controversy, Smith’s upcoming role in “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” signals his reemergence in mainstream cinema, following his acclaimed portrayal in Apple Films’ “Emancipation” directed by Antoine Fuqua.
The “Bad Boys” franchise, which debuted in 1995 with Michael Bay’s inaugural feature, marked one of the final collaborations between producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer before Simpson’s passing in 1996.
Michael Bay continued his directorial role in the sequel, “Bad Boys II,” released in 2003. The third installment, “Bad Boys for Life,” arrived in early 2020, serving as one of the last major theatrical releases before the pandemic-induced shutdown of cinemas worldwide.
Directed by Belgian filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the third film set the stage for the upcoming sequel, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.”
The ensemble cast for “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” includes returning faces Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, and Paola Núñez, introduced in the previous film.
Joining them are newcomers Eric Dane portraying the villain, along with Ioan Gruffudd and Rhea Seehorn. Notably, Tasha Smith steps into the role previously held by Theresa Randle, portraying Martin Lawrence’s wife in the trilogy.
Penned by Chris Bremner, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” promises to deliver its signature blend of action-packed sequences, witty banter, and explosive set pieces, wreaking havoc on Miami’s infrastructure when it hits theaters on June 7th.
