Paul Bamba, a celebrated professional boxer, has tragically passed away at the age of 35.
His manager, Grammy-winning singer Ne-Yo, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a joint statement with Bamba’s family on December 27.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved son, brother, friend, and boxing champion Paul Bamba, whose light and love touched countless lives,” the statement began. It praised Bamba’s unyielding ambition and drive for greatness, emphasizing his remarkable ability to inspire.
The statement concluded by requesting privacy as Bamba’s loved ones grieve together during this devastating time.
Ne-Yo, 45, posted the same heartfelt message on his Instagram Story, accompanied by Nipsey Hussle’s song “Victory Lap.” This poignant tribute underscored the depth of his respect for the late athlete.
Bamba joined Ne-Yo’s management company in November, marking the singer’s debut in managing a professional boxer. Ne-Yo had previously expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, citing his admiration for Bamba’s relentless work ethic.
“Paul’s drive and dedication were incredibly rare,” Ne-Yo said in an earlier interview. “He didn’t take shortcuts. That’s what drew me to him.”
Just six days before his untimely death, Bamba clinched the WBA Gold Cruiserweight title after defeating Rogelio Medina. His victory was a testament to his perseverance and determination.
Reflecting on his journey, Bamba wrote on Instagram, “This year I set out with a goal. I did just that. There were challenges, but I adapted, overcame, and stayed on the path. Fourteen fights. Fourteen knockouts, ending with the WBA GOLD cruiserweight world title.”
He encouraged his followers to pursue their ambitions fearlessly, stating, “If you’ve got what some call an ‘outlandish goal,’ go chase it. Prove them wrong!”
In his final Instagram post, Bamba celebrated his team, family, and supporters for helping him achieve his dreams. Ne-Yo echoed this sentiment in a congratulatory post, writing, “The best is yet to come. Congrats my guy! Honored to be your manager.”
Paul Bamba’s legacy as a fighter and inspiration endures. His untimely passing leaves an indelible mark on the world of boxing and those who knew him.
